Admission Requirements For Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT)

MIT is an equal opportunity institution, admitting into full time programmes students who have completed their secondary school education and have attained Malawi School Certificate of Education with a credit in English and one science subject.
Specific minimum requirements for a course are indicated under each course below.
All candidates who comply with the minimum admission requirements are subject to selection procedures as follows:-

  • Aptitude evaluation
  • A personal oral interview
  • A written profile to determine potential to be a successful tourism and hospitality practitioner

Applicants are notified of the time and date of evaluation sessions and the requirements in respect of the various courses.
The table below shows the standards for evaluating secondary school’s credentials for undergraduate admission.

Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management
Three years
MSCE with at least 4 credits including English and any 2 science subjects
Diploma in Travel & Tourism Management
Three years
MSCE with at least 4 credits including English, Mathematics and Geography
Diploma in Travel & Tourism Management Upgrading – Two years A certificate in any Tourism and Hospitality course and a minimum of two years experience working in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry
Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management Upgrading – Two years A certificate in any Hospitality course and a minimum of two years experience working in the Hospitality Industry
Certificate in Hotel Management – 1 year MSCE with at least 2 credits including English and 1 science subject
Certificate in Food Production – 1 Year MSCE with at least 2 credits including English and 1 science subject
Certificate in Food & Beverage services – 11/2 years MSCE with at least 2 credits including English and 1 science subject
Certificate in Front Office Operations- 1 year MSCE with at least a credit in English
Certificate in Accommodation Operations – 1 year MSCE with at least a credit in English
Diploma in International Travel and Tourism IATA Foundation Level 1 MSCE with at least 4 credits including English, Mathematics and Geography
Diploma in International Travel and Tourism IATA Consultant Level 2 MSCE with at least 4 credits including English, Mathematics and Geography plus a IATA Foundation Level 1
