Malawi College Of Health Sciences 2018 / 19 intake

Malawi College of Health Sciences is pleased to announce training opportunities for the Academic Year 2018 – 2019. Basic Courses are open to both male and female applicants with a minimum age of 16 and a maximum age of 40. Post-basic courses are also open to both male and female applicants and have no age limit.
A. BASIC COURSES
DIPLOMA COURSES – DURATION: 3 YEARS
1. Clinical Medicine – Lilongwe & Blantyre Campuses
2. Dental Therapy – Lilongwe Campus
3. Biomedical Sciences – Lilongwe Campus
4. Environmental Health – Lilongwe Campus
5. Radiography – Lilongwe Campus
6. Diploma in Pharmacy – Lilongwe Campus
7. Optometry – Lilongwe Campus
Admission Requirements for courses 1 – 7
Applicants must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with credit passes in Mathematics, Biology and Physical Science.
8. Diploma in Registered Nursing and Certificate in Midwifery
Duration: 4 years – Blantyre Campus
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with six credit passes. Four of the credit passes must be in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology and Physical Science. Two credit passes must be in any two subjects.
9. Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery Technician
Duration: 3 years – Zomba Campus
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with a total of three credit passes in Science subjects.
Two of the credit passes should be in Biology and Physical Science. If one of the two is not a credit, it must be a pass of 7 points, not lower. If one credit is from either Biology or Physical Science, two other credits can be from Mathematics, Agriculture, Geography or Home Economics.
If both Biology and Physical Science are credits, one other credit can be from Mathematics, Agriculture, Geography or Home Economics.
10. Certificate in Clinical Medicine (2 years, Blantyre and
Lilongwe Campuses)
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with passes in the following subjects: Mathematics, Biology, and Physical Science. One of these must be a credit pass.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION AND MODE OF REGISTRATION
Entrance Examinations will be administered on 18th August 2016 from 7:30AM.
Prospective candidates will register on 16th and 17th August 2016 from 7:30AM at the following Registration Centers:
a) Southern Region
Malawi College of Health Sciences – Blantyre Campus
Malawi College of Health Sciences – Zomba Campus
b) Central Region
Malawi College of Health Sciences – Lilongwe Campus
c) Northern Region
Katoto Secondary School – Mzuzu City
Registration Fee for the Entrance Examinations should be paid in advance on any day from 22nd July 2016 to 15th August 2016. Registration fee is K6,500 payable at any Malawi Savings Bank (MSB) Branch into the following account:

The Bank Deposit Slip should strictly bear the name of that candidate.
The Registration Fee is non-refundable. Candidates should, therefore, make sure that they qualify for their preferred courses before depositing the Entrance Examination Fees into the Bank Account.
Prospective candidates are advised to keep the bank deposit slip and bring it for registration on 16th or on 17th August 2016 at any of the Registration Centres. Registration forms will be obtained on the registration day at the registration centre.
Apart from the bank deposit slip, candidates should also bring the following on the day of registration:
– Original Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent, or notification of results slip.
– One (1) colour passport size photograph
– Identity Card
NOTE:
1. Students who were withdrawn from Malawi College of Health Sciences on either academic or disciplinary grounds are not eligible to register for and write Entrance Examinations.
2. As there are limited government scholarships available, those willing to be considered for self-sponsorship should indicate so on the registration form to be provided on the day of registration.
B. POST BASIC COURSES
1. Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing – Zomba Campus
2. Diploma in Community Health Nursing – Lilongwe Campus
Duration – 12 months
Admission Requirements for Post-Basic Course 1 and 2
Applicants must have Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent plus a Certificate or Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery. Four years work experience is required. Applicants should be registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.
3. Diploma in Registered Nursing and Midwifery (Upgrading) Duration : 2 Years
Admission Requirements for Post-Basic Course 3.
Applicants must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with six credits. Four of the credit passes must be in English, Biology, Mathematics and either Physical Science or General Science. Two credit passes must be from any other subjects. Applicants should have a Certificate or Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery and four years work experience in both Nursing and Midwifery. Applicants should be registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.
4. Diploma in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine
Duration : 18 months
Admission Requirements for Post-Basic Course 4.
Applicants must be qualified Medical Assistants or Nurse Midwife Technicians who have served for a minimum of four years. Applicants must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with passes in the following subjects: Mathematics, Biology and Physical Science. Two of these must be credits passes. Applicants must be registered with Medical Council of Malawi or Nurses Council of Malawi.
5. Diploma in Clinical Medicine (Upgrading)
6. Diploma Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) and Clinical Audiology
7. Diploma in Orthopaedics
Duration: 18 months
Admission Requirements for Post-Basic Courses 5, 6 and 7.
Applicants must be qualified Medical Assistants who have served for a minimum of four years. Applicants must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with passes in the following subjects: Mathematics, Biology and Physical Science. Two of these must be credits passes. Applicants must be registered with Medical Council of Malawi.
8. Advanced Diploma in Clinical Ophthalmology (Cataract Surgery)
Duration: 12 months
Admission Requirements for Post-Basic Course 8
Applicants must have a Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Diploma in Clinical Ophthalmology as well as Malawi School Certificate or its equivalent and must have worked for not less than four years. Applicants must be registered with Medical Council of Malawi.
