Lesotho College Of Education 2016 Graduation

Lesotho College of Education held its 21st graduation ceremony on Friday, 20th May 2016. The ceremony was held at the main College campus in Maseru and started at 9:30am.  The first Chancellor of the College, Dr. James Motlatsi, officiated at this ceremony and conferred certificates and diplomas on students who have successfully completed their studies in all the College programmes. The programmes and the numbers in each case are as follows:

A) PART TIME (IN-SERVICE) PROGRAMMES

  1. Certificate in Early Childhood Education (CECE) – 2 year programme: forty four (44) graduands. These are teachers who are certified to teach at early childhood centres and reception class.
  2. Diploma in Education (Primary) – (Distance Teacher Education Programme – DTEP) – 4 year programme: five hundred and twenty seven (527) graduands. These are graduands who are qualified to teach at primary school level, who were already serving as unqualified or under-qualified primary school teachers when they were enrolled into DTEP.

B) FULL TIME (PRE-SERVICE) PROGRAMMES

  1. Diploma in Education (Primary) – 3 year programme: four hundred and thirteen (413) graduands. These graduands are qualified to teach at primary school level.
  2. Diploma in Education (Secondary) – 3 year programme: three hundred and thirteen (313) graduands. These are graduands who have specialised in, and are qualified to teach, various subjects that are offered at high school level. Twenty one (21) of these graduands are qualified to teach technical subjects such as woodwork and technical drawing

The total number of graduands is one thousand, three hundred and eighteen (1,318).
