PIL Pumps in 100 Million Kwacha to LUANAR’s Multipurpose Hall project

Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) on Tuesday 8th November 2016 donated 100 million kwacha towards the construction of a multipurpose hall at LUANAR Bunda Campus.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, LUANAR Vice Chancellor, Professor George Kanyama Phiri thanked PIL for the donation saying the multipurpose hall will cushion the problem space which the University is currently facing due to its initiative in increasing access to education.
Complementing the Vice Chancellor, LUANAR Board Chairman Professor James Seyani said the donation was timely and that it will go a long way to assisting LUANAR achieve what it aspires to be a and that is a World Class University.
He said the hall will provide space suitable for a wide range of activities such as various exhibitions, poster sessions and receptions parties apart from the much needed teaching and learning space.
“We have therefore, made a proposition to name the multipurpose hall after the name of the donor. The hall will be called PIL multipurpose hall. This is in recognisation of such a wonderful donation,” said Professor Seyani.
The Board Chairman further assured the donor that the University will speed up the process of constructing the hall and that it will also make sure that they take care of the hall once it is completed.
Presenting the donation PIL Board Chair, Mr Zubeir Bhana said his company cares most about Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number four on quality education and is committed to partnering with the government in the noble cause and that it is for this reason that the institution contributed to the construction of a multipurpose hall at LUANAR.
“It’s PIL hope that this donation will go a long way in creating a conducive learning environment for students here at LUANAR and improve the overall University operations,” said Mr Bhana.
Mr Bhana further called on LUANAR students to jealously guard the infrastructure facilities within the premises for sustainability.
In his remarks, Minister of Education Science and Technology, Dr Emmanuel Fabiano hailed PIL of the significant donation saying this is not just a donation to LUANAR as an institution but also to the whole nation.
“We all know that agriculture is the backbone of the country and as such requires well trained manpower for science and technology development and policy. If we are to transform this sector we need to have well trained personnel and we cannot have well trained personnel if the learning environment is substandard. The donation therefore is timely and greatly needed,” said the Minister.
He further urged private sector players to emulate from PIL.
The project will start as soon a possiblle and is estimated to be completed within six months from comencement.
