University of Livigstonia (Unilia) Admission For January 2018 Intake

University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) was established in 2003 under the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Livingstonia.  Guided by Christian values according to the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, its mission is to educate and inspire learners who shall transform society, through excellence in teaching, research, consultancy, and learning environment. The University is accredited by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).
 

  1. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES: Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into various undergraduate programmes for the January intake of the 2018 Academic Year. Minimum entry requirements for specific programmes are outlined below:

    ·  Applicants with certificates in relevant fields will be enrolled in 1st year.

    ·  Applicants with a Diploma in Education and a major in TRS may apply but will be required to take additional courses.

    1.    METHOD OF PAYMENT OF FEES PER SEMESTER
    · All applicants should provide proof of capability to pay the required fees.
    · Students should pay at least half of the required fees per semester in order to be registered. The remaining balance of fees should be paid in at least 2 monthly instalments after registration.
    · Students are required to deposit fees to the bank and produce the deposit slip at registration.
    · Only students who have paid the required fees and fulfilled registration requirements will be given authority to attend classes and access other services.

    Note:

     POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME: Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into two-year postgradute programmes for the January intake of the 2018 Academic Year. Minimum entry requirements for specific programmes are outlined below;

    1.    Master of Arts in Theology and Religious Studies · Applicants should have a Bachelor of Theology or a related degree 2 years
    2.    Master of Arts in Theology and Gender Studies · Applicants should have a Bachelor of Theology or a related degree 2 years
    3.    Master of Arts in Theology and Development Studies · Applicants should have a Bachelor of Theology or a related degree 2 years

Programme delivery

  • The programmes will be offered through both Coursework and ResearchOR by Research only.
  • The Masters by Coursework and Research will be done in two years, with one year dedicated to coursework on the campus, while the second year to research.
  • Masters by Research will be completed in three years, through extensive research work, writing of modules and a dissertation.

Eligibility
Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor degree in Theology, or Education (humanities), or Social and Development Studies, with credit, or equivalent fields from a well-recognized institution. Students with a strong pass in the stated fields may also be considered. Experience in social welfare development, education and the Holy Ministry is an added advantage.

Other related costs such as accommodation, meals, book allowances, field research and medical cover will be the student’s responsibility.
All applicants are required to indicate how they will finance their studies. Those sponsored should include a letter of commitment from a sponsor. They should also include the following; a detailed CV, an Academic transcript, certified copies of certificates, and two traceable referees.

  1. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
  • Application forms can be obtained from the University Registrar’s in Mzuzu, Laws Campus at Livingstonia, Ekwendeni Campus, Chichiri Secondary School in Blantyre, Emmanuel Teacher’s College in Lilongwe and YONECO Offices in Zomba.
  • Completed applications should be sent by post, or delivered by hand in the University Registrar’s Office in Mzuzu.
  • Students who were admitted in the September 2017/2018 intake and failed to report but made reservations for their places in writing should not reapply. However, they should confirm in writing their readiness to be admitted.

Such students do not need to pay an application fee. Only fresh applicants will be required to pay the application fee.

  • Applicants should attach to completed forms; copies of certificates, notification of results slips or transcripts and an application letter.
  • Applicants may visit our website: unilia.ac.mw to download the 2018 Advert and a form.
  • Completed application forms should be returned with a non-refundable admission application fee of MK7, 000 (undergraduate programmes) and MK 10,000 (Postgraduate Programmes) for Malawian applicants and US$50 for international applicants and a copy of the MSCE Certificate or its equivalent.
  • Incomplete applications and those submitted without the required application fee will not be considered.
  • Upgrading applicants should provide copies of the following documents failing which their applications will not be considered:
  1. A copy of the MSCE or its equivalent.
  2. Previous academic records (transcript) for Diploma and certificate holders.
  • Curriculum vitae.
