The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for admission into its City Campus Postgraduate and Undergraduate generic and mature entry Economic Fees Weekend programmes for the 2018/2019 academic year commencing in January, 2019. THOSE WHO ALREADY APPLIED FOR THE WEEKEND PROGRAMME FIRST ADVERTISEMENT, NEED NOT TO REAPPLY
1. PRELIMINARY INFORMATION FOR INTERESTED APPLICANTS
Minimum entry requirements for Postgraduate:
PhD Programmes
• A relevant Master’s Degree obtained from an institution of higher learning recognised by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
• Candidates should also demonstrate ability to conduct independent research by providing at least one example of a scientific publication in print or electronic format as well as a description of any published or unpublished research, thesis, contributions to professional or scholarly literature, and other professional or academic experiences relevant to an assessment of the candidates capacity to pursue doctoral studies successfully.
• A brief curriculum vitae containing an overview of education, work, publications, and other professional activities as well as at least three references from persons in professional and academic communities;
• Where necessary, candidates will also be required to take oral and/or written examinations in their major and minor fields to determine overall preparation and background to cope up with their desired programme.
MSc. Programmes
• A relevant Bachelor of Science Degree obtained from an institution of higher learning recognised by NCHE.
• A credit pass/cGPA of at least 3.00 or equivalent. Candidates with a mere pass/cGPA of not less than 2.60 or equivalent but with vast relevant work experience may also be considered.
• A brief curriculum vitae containing an overview of education, work, publications, and other professional activities as well as at least three references from persons in professional and academic communities;
• Where necessary, candidates will also be required to take oral and/or written examinations in their major and minor fields to determine overall preparation and background to cope up with their desired programme.
Minimum entry requirements for Undergraduate:
Bachelors – Generic
6 credit passes including English Language, Biology, Mathematics and Physical Science/Chemistry at MSCE or any comparable O-Level qualification. Or
3 passes with at least grade ‘C’ in Biology, Mathematics and Chemistry at A-Level or any comparable qualification.
Bachelors – Mature
MSCE or any comparable O-Level qualification. and
A relevant diploma (which also covered basic science courses) obtained from an accredited institution of higher learning, those with Credit and Distinction passes stand a better chance. And
A minimum of 2 years post-diploma relevant work experience.
**Candidates with A-Levels shall join the 2nd year of all LUANAR programmes**
Further requirements: Candidates must also meet the specific entry requirements for each faculty/programme as outlined under the programme details section of PGDMP-2018/2019 application form for postgraduate applicants; UGME-2018/2019 application form for mature entry applicants and UGCDB-2018/2019 application form for generic applicants.
Exclusion: Candidates who were withdrawn from LUANAR or any other Public University on academic grounds and those already registered with LUANAR or any comparable university are not eligible for admission.
Annual tuition fees (the fees may change anytime)
Postgraduate PhD programmes US$4,500.00
Postgraduate MSc programmes US$2,500.00
Undergraduate Mature programmes MWK 850,000.00
All admissions shall be on self-sponsored basis hence candidates should be prepared to meet all the other costs associated with their studies.

2. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
a. The address for submitting application forms is: The University Registrar, LUANAR, City Campus, P.O. Box 219, Lilongwe, (Attention Admissions Office). The application forms can be downloaded from www.luanar.ac.mw and from the following LUANAR Official Updates Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/luanarupdates/. Application forms can also be obtained from City campus MACOHA and Area 36 Energem campuses.
b. A complete application package MUST include:
i. An appropriate application form as indicated under sections 2 of this call for applications (PGDMP-2018/2019 for postgraduate; UGCDB-2018/2019 for generic and UGME-2018/2019 for mature entry);
ii. Copies of all relevant certificates and academic transcripts which are being used for the application. These must be duly certified by a Commissioner of Oaths as true copies of the originals;
iii. Source of funding i.e. official scholarship award/sponsorship letter;
iv. Reference letters from current or former employers showing proof of at least 2 years’ relevant work experience (for postgraduate and mature entry applicants);
v. Proof of payment of an appropriate application fee bearing the name of the applicant and the amount of application fee paid.
vi. Proof of English Language proficiency for international candidates whose first language is not English
INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS SHALL NOT BE PROCESSED!
