1.Université des Mascareignes Merit Scholarship
Introduction
Since the Academic Year 2013/14, the Université des Mascareignes has put in place 6 merit scholarships in order to attract the best mauritian student in the full-time undergraduate programs on a yearly basis.
The scholarship is valid for the period of study. The scholarship will, however, terminate in case the student repeats the year or leave the program he/she was enrolled.
Recruitment Criteria
These recruitment criteria have been designed to make a selection of the best candidates for enrolment at the Université des Mascareignes based on their academic results. Candidates will be selected based on a minimum of 2 ‘A’ levels or equivalent (Higher School Certificate / International Baccalaureate/Other acceptable qualifications). Priority of selection will be firstly on the ‘preferred main subject’ required followed by the ‘other acceptable main subjects’ (see Table 1). The following table gives details of the preferred main subjects and other acceptable main subjects for enrolment.

Scholarships Award
Award of scholarships will be based to the most meritious students based on three ‘A’ levels or equivalent academic performance. To qualify for the scholarship award, students must have at least 3 ‘B’ at principal level or equivalent, irrespective of the number of sittings. The applicants would be classified in order of priority according to three levels of sorting as explained below.
Primary Sorting
A weightage system has been designed to select the best 6 candidates, which is explained in the following table:

The weight has been allocated according to the ratio 3:2:1 for preferred, other and subsidiary subjects respectively.
Secondary Sorting
In case of a tie for HSC students, the A*grade would be used as follows:

In case of a tie between all qualified short-listed candidates at the level of primary sorting, the School Certificate or equivalent results would be considered. Priority would be given to those students whose subjects are related to the area of specialisation they have chosen. In the case when the criteria of preferred subjects are not applicable then the results in English, French and Mathematics would be considered. The weightage (Table 5) would be as follows:

Special cases
Special cases would be defined in this section as:
(i) All those candidates having other qualifications than those mentioned above in Table 2.
(ii) These special cases would be dealt with at the level of the Scholarship Selection Committee (SSC) of the UdM on a case to case basis.
Scholarship Selection Committee
The SSC reserves the right not to grant any scholarships as a result of this exercise.
The decision of the SSC is final with no right of appeal
2.Mauritius-Africa Scholarships
African students can avail themselves of the Mauritius-Africa Scholarships scheme.The government of mauritius offers scholarship at undergraduate level to African students.Applicants must be a resident citizens of member states of the African Union or of Commonwealth African countries.
This initiative is part of the Government of Mauritius commitment to promote capacity-building at various levels across the African continent through its strong belief that Higher Education is one of the key elements of growth and social development. This is all in line with the Government of Mauritius respect and upholding of Goal 4 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a target of which is to substantially expand globally the number of scholarships available to developing countries by 2020.
The conditions to be eligible to apply for the Scholarship are:
1. Applicants for undergraduate courses should be above 18 years of age and should not have reached their 26th birthday by the closing date of application;
2. Applicants must have applied and obtained a seat for full-time on-campus programme of study at a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius;
3. The scholarship shall be for a course of a maximum of four (4) years duration;
4. Application must be endorsed by the Nominating Agency in the country of the applicant, which typically is part of the Ministry of Education.
The Scholarship will support successful candidates in meeting tuition fees and contribute to their living expenses during their studies in Mauritius, as more fully detailed in the Guidelines for Applicants. Mauritius is a signatory of the SADC Protocol on Education and consequently, all students from SADC countries will benefit from the same tuition fees amount as a home student; others will be considered as International students. As a result, SADC countries awardees will be allocated upto MUR 100,000 annually to cover their tuition fees, whereas non-SADC countries will be allocated MUR 160,000 annually to cover their tuition fees. This tuition fee will be paid directly to the public Higher Education Institution.
Furthermore, economy airfare by the most economical route, from the country of origin at the beginning of studies and back to the country of origin at the end of the studies, will be covered.
