University of Malawi:Chancellor College Application for Short Course in Photovoltaic Installations and Maintenance Admission 2020-2021 Academic Year

SHORT COURSE IN PHOTOVOLTAIC INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE

The University of Malawi – Chancellor College, through the Physics Department, is pleased to invite applications for a Short Course in Photovoltaic Installations and Maintenance to be offered through Open, Distance and E-learning (ODeL)The programme will start on 17 August, 2020. Teaching and learning will be done online, except during exam and practical sessions, when students will be required to come to Chancellor College E-Learning Centres across the country. The course is being supported by the Strengthening Higher Education Access in Malawi Activity (SHEAMA) program, implemented by Arizona State University with funding from USAID Malawi.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The photovoltaic installations and maintenance short course is a gateway to a career in the solar industry.  It provides a solid understanding about solar technology and its application. After successfully completing this course, the candidates will have the skills in solar systems designing, installation and maintenance and also in domestic electrics. This means that the course presents its candidates with multiple potential ways to generate income and revenue and be self-employed.

Duration – The Course contains 10 modules that will be offered in block release. The full duration is one year.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should be holders of the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent, with a pass in Physical Science. Those from SHEAMA targeted districts of Karonga, Kasungu, Salima, Balaka, Mulanje and Chikwawa, especially adolescent girls and young women and persons with disabilities, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Tuition fees is for the whole course is at MK250,000.00 per student. Scholarships will be made available to a few candidates who will meet the programme-set admission criteria.
