KNUST Call for Short-Term Students and Post Docs Scholarships 2020

Background

The African Centre for Career Enhancement & Skills Support (ACCESS) project is a DAAD (German) funded collaborative initiative that seeks to address the problem of increasing unemployment rates among university graduates in Africa. In Ghana the project is implemented by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Other partners in the project includes Rwanda, Kenya, Tunisia, Benin, and Nigeria. The Call

This is a short-term, part time scholarship financed by the DAAD with funding from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.  The grant is aimed at enabling the grant holder to develop and commence implementation of a research idea within the time of the grant (3 months) that leads to a fully completed research findings or a prototype by the end of the designated time. 

Research Areas

The proposed short-term research, business idea or prototype, should address a topical issue in one of the following pillars of the ACCESS project:

  1. Entrepreneurship Capacity Building (Skills development, E-Coaching, etc.)
  2. Employability Research
  3. University Business Linkages

General Requirements

Applicants must be Ghanaian graduate students, Masters and early career PhD holders

Duration

The grant period shall be 3 months (October to December 2020)

Grant

The short-term scholarship will be in the form of a monthly allowance of 425.00 Euros (for Graduate Students/Masters holders) and 600.00 Euros for Post Docs. There are no additional funds for field work activities.

Expected Outputs

By the end of the scholarship period, the recipient is expected to have collected preliminary data that can lead to a publication or conference/seminar presentation. Ideas that have potential to lead to business prototypes, business model, business idea or relevant innovations are highly encouraged.

Application Procedure

The applicant shall be expected to submit ALL required documents as one document to ogr@knust.edu.gh not later than Friday September 25, 2020.

Required Documents

  1. A 2-page concept paper that addresses a topical issue in one of the pillars of the ACCESS project
  2. Research tools (questionnaires, interview guides, interview schedules, etc.)
  3. Updated Curriculum vitae
  4. A letter of recommendation from academic referee
  5. Cover letter indicating your motivation, area of interest and the ACCESS project pillar you are applying for
  6. All academic certificates and transcripts
