JOB SUMMARY

Under  the  general  supervision of  the  Registrar of Private  Security Companies, the incumbent is responsible for inspection of Security Officers and Guards, execution of the Board’s decisions, scrutinization of applications and record keeping.

MAIN DUTIES

1. UNDERTAKES INSPECTION OF SECURITY OFFICERS AND GUARDS

1.1    Inspects security companies to ensure compliance with Private Security Officers Act 2002 together with the relevant Regulations and the Code of Conduct drawn pursuant to the Act.

1.2    Monitors and evaluates implementation of a Code of Conduct for
         Private Security Guards.

2. FACILITATES IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BOARD’S DECISIONS

2.1    Executes the decisions of the Board in the context of its mandate.

2.2    Ensures issuance of certificates of registration in accordance with the Board decisions.

2.3    Executes the Board’s decision to suspend, withdraw or remove the name of the registered Private Security Officer or Guard from operating as a Private Security Officer or Guard where they have acted contrary to the provisions of the Act.

2.4    Implements the criteria for the establishment, management and recruitment of personnel and the standards to be maintained in the operations of Private Security Officer or Guard.

3. SCREENS AND SCRUTINIZES THE APPLICATIONS

3.1    Receives and processes applications for the registration of Private Security Officers and Guards.

3.2    Scrutinizes applications for prospective Private Security Officers and Guards for any criminal record and in order to ascertain if they are fit and proper persons to be employed in the private security industry.

3.3    Advises the Board on the eligibility of the applications pursuant to the provisions of the Private Security Officers Act 2002.

4. MAINTAINS RECORD KEEPING OF THE BOARD’S PROCEEDINGS

4.1    Keeps a record of the Board’s proceedings.

4.2    Maintains a register and enters the names and prescribed particulars of each Private Security Officer or Guard whose application has been approved.

4.3 Regularly updates such register.

4.4 Establishes and maintains a register of all Private Security
Officers and Guards.

5. FACILITATES PREPARATIONS FOR BOARD MEETINGS

5.1 Prepares and circulates the agenda of the Board to all members.

5.2 Ensures the day to day running of the business of the Board.

JOB SPECIFICATION

– Master’s Degree in Public Administration plus a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the civil service. Knowledge of security matters would be an added advantage.

OR

– Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration plus a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the civil service. Knowledge of security matters would be an added advantage.
