Newmont Mining Corporation is a leading global gold producer with key assets in Nevada, Peru, Australia, Ghana, and Suriname.

Newmont’s Africa Operations holds two gold mining operations in Ghana: the Ahafo Mine located in the Brong-Ahafo Region and the Akyem Mine located in the Eastern region. There is also near mine exploration and development focus in Ghana to annually replace gold reserves. Newmont Africa also has early-stage exploration programs in the African countries of Ethiopia and Morocco.

We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

Job Title: Legal Counsel

In This Role You Will:

Advise and Support 

  • Provide legal advice to internal clients to manage legal risk.
  • Provide back-up support for evaluating, promoting and addressing compliance with Newmont’s Code of Conduct, policies and standards at site, including but not limited to the Anti-Corruption Standard, Gifts and Entertainment Standard, and Conflicts of Interest Standard, and all associated regional and site-based requirements.  
  • Advise on applicable laws and regulations and on mining framework, including Investment Agreement. 
  • Provide legal advice and assistance to management in relation to Ghanaian legal requirements for key areas such as permitting, environment and social governance, human resources, mining regulations, finance, Land and tenements, etc.

Ethics and Compliance 

  • Certify regulatory compliance by internal functions to comply with laws-advice on issues.  
  • Review human resources processes to prove that employment decisions are rightfully done to avoid any legal or litigation risk.  
  • Provide support in ethics and compliance investigations, as appropriate.

Company Governance and Reporting 

  • Support the Company Secretary in running meetings and activities relating to the Board of Directors and verify that company’s statutory records are up-todate.  
  • Act as custodian of key corporate legal documents.  
  • Liaise with the Corporate records function on records management.  
  • Complete/oversee, prepare, submit and monitor applications, reports and filings with applicable government agencies.  
  • Represent the company in meetings with senior regulatory officials.  
  • Support regional governance process and documentation, done by a cross functional working group to harmonise and update all governance documents for the region. 
  • Confirm that the Regional Vice President, Legal is apprised of legal, contractual and regulatory issues affecting Newmont Ghana entities and operations. 
  • Visit sites and participate in site leadership team meetings to maintain visibility to issues affecting operations.  

Contracts 

  • Draft, review contracts or negotiate contract terms submitted by Supply Chain and other internal clients to confirm that the business has the most favourable terms.  
  • Negotiate and review contracts.  
  • Review/ draft tenancy agreement between the organization and landlords.
  • Review/ draft agreements between the organization and communities the company operates in.
  • Support the acquisition and management of tenements – represent and /or arrange legal representation.

 Litigation 

  • Support the management of legal affairs of Newmont Ghana sites and operations.  
  • Support management of litigation and external counsel for the business to guarantee that the business is victorious and to reduce litigation cost. 
  • Identify and assess legal risks arising from the Newmont Ghana operations, and in consultation with department managers, develop and implement strategies for managing the legal risks.

Additional Responsibilities:

Relationship Management 

  • Maintain working relationships with department leaders and key teams, to understand and address legal support needs.  
  • Maintain strategic relationships with key government/regulatory officials, especially legal officers of key regulators, and represent the company in meetings with senior regulatory officials. 
  • Work in cooperation with other Newmont Legal Counsel and managers regarding projects elsewhere in the Africa Region and other regions.

Training 

  • Train internal and external clients/ stakeholders in applicable areas.

Job Title: Fuel and Metal Scrap Equipment Operator

Purpose

To provide fueling of auxiliary equipment and metal scrap disposal services to mine maintenance, process maintenance and site services departments.Essential Duties

Fueling

  • Ensure the fueling of welding plants across the site, e.g. process, mine maintenance and site services areas.
  • Ensure the fueling of generator plants in and outside the site
  • Ensure the fueling of Gen-Sets manning the IT towers

Disposal of Waste Scraps

  • Ensure the pick-up and disposal of metal scraps at process
  • Ensure the pick-up and disposal of metal scraps at mine maintenance
  • Ensure the pick-up and disposal of metal scraps at site services areas

Reporting

  • Provide daily report on fueling lifted and fuel dispensed
  • Provided weekly report on scrap lifted

Health, Safety, and Environment

  • Accept personal responsibility for health and safety
  • Attend all safety gatherings/meetings in the department
  • Ensure all environmental compliance are adhered to on the field according to company’s standards
  • Adhere and comply with maintenance standards

Training & Experience

Formal Qualification:

  • Senior High School Certificate

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge on the use of fuel trucks and scraps handling equipment/vehicle with respect to industry standards.
  • Knowledge of the work management process.
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling on the job.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operating these equipment/vehicle

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to identify tools
  • Have good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Poses an FE Ghanaian drivers’ license.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude and strong, dedicated work ethics.
  • Knowledge of ISO procedures – relevant to the department
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Job Title: Civil Construction Supervisor

Purpose

  • This is a Fixed – Term role to  provide technical supervision with respect to new civil construction projects, and maintenance supervision of piping, plumbing, civil construction projects.
  • This role will guide business partners in the safe execution of new and existing projects and maintenance at the Akyem site.

Essential Duties

Construction Planning and Design

  • Plan the daily operations of all building and construction projects at the Akyem site.
  • Receive work orders from various departments to begin planning and commissioning maintenance work.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
  • Commission the build of projects upon receipt of design drawings from user department.
  • Approve waybills for delivery of materials.
  • Plan for site meetings, kick off meetings, and issuing of site instructions.
  • Confirm the schedules for the timeous completion of construction projects.
  • Complete CMP’s (Construction Management Plan) for approval.
  • Raise requisitions for final approval by the Operation Services Manager.
  • Confirm and approve resources for projects by business partners.
  • Plan and allocate work to building and maintenance subcontractors.

Construction Execution

  • Organise, supervise and control the daily operations of all building and construction projects at the Akyem site to make sure they are completed safely, on time, within budget and according to desired quality.
  • Confirm any construction modifications on site.
  • Approve project completion on site.
  • Conduct any construction related maintenance work, as per work order.
  • Oversee that all business partners and subcontracted workers adhere to Newmont standard operating procedures.
  • Inspect all work performed by employees and subcontractors.
  • Participate in project meetings to monitor and support project progress.
  • Establish and maintain standards of quality control for all work completed on-site.

Construction Budget Management

  • Provide input into the annual budget of what needs to be constructed for project works purposes.
  • Oversee that delivery is in line with the project budget and timelines, by tracking actual expenditure against proposed budget.
  • Verify that all aspects of the infrastructural design and build are accommodated in the budget including, labour costs, materials, bill of quantities.
  • Monitor budget and scheduling impacts and report on any variances detected.

Team Leadership

  • Provide technical supervision for both maintenance and construction projects.
  • Oversee that new and current employees have received all necessary training required to perform their work in an efficient, effective and safe manner.
  • Coordinate and work with Project Engineers, E&I Supervisors and other subcontractors.
  • Provide information and guidance to complete the build within specified project timelines and budgets.

Project and Works Health and Safety

  • Deliver own prescribed outcomes and/or provide support services by following Newmont’s Health and Safety systems and protocols.
  • Maintain adherence to prescribed Health and Safety outcomes.
  • Oversee that all work carried out adheres to Health and Safety standard operating procedures.
  • Provide safety leadership and lead risk assessments
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments and housekeeping inspections to ensure regulatory, corporate, site and environmental standards are being followed.

Project Works Reporting

  • Maintain detailed progress reports of construction activities and report project performance to Operations Services Manager

Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction
  • First Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction

Additional Knowledge:

  • Strong Project Management knowledge
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and other Mine Engineering Software

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 -10 years’ experience in a mining or construction environment
  • Proven experience managing functional group(s) in a Project Execution environment

Technical Skills:

  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, interacting with diverse functional and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong planning and organising skills.
  • Strong cost control skills
  • Sound computer literacy skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
