GNAT Proposed 20-25% Salary Increment, Check What government Agrees To Pay Taking Effect From January 2021

Together with other teacher unions, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) and the proposed 20-25% salary increase for teachers based on the current cost of living in the country, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) went to the negotiating table. Since then, the teachers’ unions have been negotiating with the Pay and Labor Commission.

The Salaries and Labor Commission has negotiated with the Labour Unions that wage increases of 12.5 per cent will take effect from January 2021.

The Commission on Salaries and Labor has decided on a 12.5 percent pay increase for all public sector employees that will take effect in January 2021.

From January 2021, the government will continue to pay teachers professional development allowances per month.

The 12.5 percent would at least cushion teachers’ salaries with the inclusion of the professional development allowance.

Teachers are information packages in our nation’s growth, teachers deserve better service conditions, government has agreed to improve teachers’ service conditions.

The government has provided a high-speed fiber optic Wi-Fi internet in all senior high schools with the common core curriculum emphasizing information and communication technology (ICT) in all senior high schools to support teachers to own laptops. By taking 70 percent of the cost of laptops and teachers pay 30 percent, which will be spread over a period of 12 months, the government will procure laptops for teachers
