2020/2021 Admissions – Sandwich Applicants


It is announced for the information of prospective applicants and the general public that E-vouchers for application forms for 2020/2021 Sandwich Programmes of the University of Health and Allied Sciences will start selling from March 4, 2021 at a cost of GHC220.00. SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES (SANDWICH) – HO CAMPUS

Sandwich Programme in the School of Allied Health Sciences is a programme designed for certificate holders in Medical Laboratory Technology, HND holders in Hospitality Management and Certificate in Orthotics or Physiotherapy Assistantship who have successfully qualified the Access course to be enrolled onto the degree programmes (Sandwich). It will be organized in two modules. 

Module I 

The Sandwich Module I programme will be a blend of online and face-to-face teaching and learning starting from June 5, 2021 to August 14, 2021(ie. 6 weeks Online) and face-to-face, practical, mop-up teaching and learning starting / Examinations from August 23, 2021 to October 1, 2021 (ie. 6 weeks) at Ho Campus. 

Module II

The Sandwich programme module II programme will also commence with online from October 18, 2021 to November 27, 2021(ie. 6 weeks Online) and face-to-face, practical, mop-up teaching and learning starting/ Examinations from December 20, to January 15, 2022(ie. 6 weeks) at Ho Campus.

Applicants with the relevant qualifications can apply to pursue a sandwich programme and enroll at level 200 in any of the following three (3) Bachelor programmes (Dietetics; Medical Laboratory Sciences; and Physiotherapy in the School of Allied Health Sciences.

General Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the application forms.
  • Applicants MUST hold a certificate accredited by the AHPC, Ghana (where applicable)
  • Applicants should upload a scanned copy of their Licensing Certificates showing their Identification Number (PIN), Academic Certificate and Transcript.
  • Proof of a minimum of three (3) years working experience.
  • Short-listed applicants will have to pass a selection interview.
  • All successful applicants will be admitted as fee-paying students.

The entry path for applicants into sandwich programmes is outlined below:

A. Diploma Holders

Interested applicants with any Professional Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology; Nutrition; Radiologic Technology and Physiotherapy Assistantship from accredited institutions with FGPA of not less than 2.5 with a minimum of three (3) years certified working experience, will have to pass a selection interview to be conducted by the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, for admissions.

Successful Applicants will enroll at Level 300 Sandwich, except for Physiotherapy Assistants who will enroll at level 200 and for Radiologic Technology (Full-time for applicants working and showing evidence of having obtained a study leave approval) degree programme in the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.

B. HND Holders/Diploma in a Non-Health Related Profession

Interested applicants with any HND in Science Laboratory Technology; Hospitality Management, or any non-profession related health programme, from accredited institutions, with FGPA of not less than 2.5 with a minimum of three (3) years certified working experience, will have to pass a selection interview to be conducted by the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.

Successful Applicants will enroll at Level 200 Sandwich degree programme in the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.

The deadline for completion of the online application form for Sandwich is May 15, 2021.

SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY (SANDWICH) – HO CAMPUS

Sandwich Programme in the School of Nursing and Midwifery is a programme designed for certificate holders in any of the following: Nurse-Assistant Clinical (NAC)/ Health Assistant Clinical (HAC); Nurse-Assistant Preventive (NAP)/Community Health Nurse (CHN); and post NAC/HAC; NAP/CHN Midwifery from training institutions accredited by Nursing and Midwifery Council, Ghana. The Sandwich programme will be organized in two modules.

Module I

The Sandwich Module I programme will be a blend of online and face-to-face teaching and learning starting from June 19, 2021to to August 28, 2021(ie. 6 weeks Online) and face-to-face teaching and learning starting / Examinations from September 6, 2021 to October 1, 2021 (ie. 4 weeks) at Ho Campus.

Module II

The Sandwich programme module II programme will also commence with online from November 1, 2021 to December 11, 2021(ie. 6 weeks Online) and face-to-face teaching and learning starting/ Examinations from December 20, to January 15, 2022(ie. 4 weeks) at Ho Campus.

Entry Requirements for Certificate Holders

Successful Candidates from the Access course would enroll onto the degree programmes (Sandwich) in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho Campus.

Programmes to be enrolled in, on successful completion of the access course in the School of Nursing and Midwifery are as follows:

Bachelor of Nursing
Bachelor of Midwifery
Bachelor of Public Health Nursing

  • All applicants MUST hold a certificate accredited by Nursing and Midwifery Council, Ghana.
  • Applicants MUST hold a certificate(s) in any of the following: Nurse-Assistant Clinical (NAC)/ Health Assistant Clinical (HAC); Nurse-Assistant Preventive (NAP)/Community Health Nurse (CHN); and post NAC/HAC; NAP/CHN Midwifery. Applicants MUST have practiced in their chosen fields for three (3) years or more.
  • Crossing over from one programme to another (e.g. General Nursing Public Health Nursing and Midwifery), is allowed but the point of entry is Level 100 instead of Level 200.
  • Health Assistant Clinical (HAC) / Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC) applicant will progress in General Nursing programme and write the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Licensing Examination to be qualified as Registered General Nurse (RGN). The entry point is Level 200.
  • Community Health Nurse (CHN) / Nurse Assistant Preventive (NAP) applicant will progress in Public Health Nursing programme and write the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Licensing Examination to be qualified as Registered General Nurse (RGN). The entry point is Level 200.
  • Post NAP/CHN and post NAC/HAC Midwifery applicant will progress in Midwifery programme and will not have to write the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) examination. Entry point is Level 200.
  • Applicants will be required to provide their Auxiliary Identification Number (AIN) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) certificates instead of their transcript.

Entry Requirements for Diploma Holders

  • Applicants must have certification by Nursing and Midwifery Council, Ghana.
  • Applicants must hold a Diploma with Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 2.50 or better.
  • Applicants should upload a scanned copy of their Certificates, Professional Identification Number (PIN), and their Academic Transcripts.
  • Applicants must hold Certificate(s) in any of the following areas: SRN and Public Health Nursing (PHN), Midwifery and Mental Health Nursing / Registered Mental Health Nursing (RMN).
  • Short-listed applicants may be required to attend a selection interview.
  • Applicants MUST have practised in their chosen fields for three (3) years or more.
  • The point of entry will be Level 300.
  • Crossing over from one programme to another (e.g. General Nursing, Public Health Nursing and Midwifery) is allowed but the point of entry is Level 200 instead of Level 300 and they must write the Licensing Examination.
  • Post NAC/NAP Midwifery applicants will progress in the field of Midwifery and are exempted from writing the Licensing Examination. The point of entry is Level 300 but this is at the discretion of the University. The University may decide to put an applicant at Level 200 if applicant is changing track. (i.e, staff nurse coming to do degree in midwifery)

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH (SANDWICH) – HOHOE CAMPUS

Sandwich Programme in the School of Public Health is a programme designed for both certificate holders and diploma holders as in the detailed entry requirements below:
The Sandwich programme will be organized in two semesters in the Sandwich academic year through a blended learning approach using the Learning Management System (LMS) online and face-to-face interactions.
The Sandwich Semester I programme will commence August 9, 2021 to September 18, 2021 (six weeks online). Face to face mop up/revision will start from September 27, 2021 to October 10, 2021 with Examinations starting from October 11, 2021 to October 24, 2021.

The Sandwich Semester II programme will commence on January 17, 2022 to February 25, 2022.  Face-to face, mop-up/revision will start from February 27, 2022 to March 11, 2022 with Examinations starting from March 26, 2022.

Entry Requirements for Certificate Holders

Successful Candidates from the Access course would enroll onto the degree programmes (Sandwich) in the School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Hohoe Campus. The point of entry will be Level 200.

Programmes to be enrolled in, on successful completion of the access course, Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) with the following options:

  • Disease Control
  • Environmental Health
  • Health Information
  • Health Promotion
  • Nutrition
  • Mental Health

Entry Requirements for Diploma Holders into Level 300

  • Candidates with Diploma awarded by accredited Health Institutions and Institutions under the Ministry of Health shall require an FGPA of 2.50 or better/equivalent.
  • Short-listed applicants shall be required to attend a selection interview.
  • A holder of a two year or three-year diploma in any Environmental Health discipline with a minimum of FGPA of 2.50 may apply for Bachelor of Public Health (Environmental Health option).
  • Applicants should upload a scanned copy of their Certificates, Professional Identification Number (PIN) or Auxiliary Identification Number (AIN), and their Academic Transcripts
  • Applicants MUST have practiced in their chosen fields for three (3) years or more.
  • The point of entry will be Level 300.

In addition to the above requirements, applicants for BPH. (Mental Health) should possess any of the following qualifications:

  • Diploma in Nursing (General / Psychiatry Nursing and Midwifery).
  • Diploma in either Disease Control, Nutrition, Health Promotion or Health Information.
