AGRICULTURE ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
A. UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Preamble
Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with specialized Programmes and BSc in Consumer Sciences shall normally be a 4-Year Programme for direct entrants. Applicants with Diploma in Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Forestry and Resource Management, Home Economics or any other agriculture related diplomas obtained from an institution recognized by NUL will start at year two level.
Direct Entry
Requirements: For admissibility into Year 1, applicants must have:
- Sat for a minimum of six (6) subjects in LGCSE examinations.
- Obtained a C grade or better in Mathematics.
- Obtained a D grade or better in English language.
- Obtained a C grade or better in either Biology or Physical Science.
- Obtained a C grade or better in one other subject
- Obtained a D grade or better in two (2) other subjects.
For ranking purposes Agriculture/Food and Nutrition/Fashion and Textile may be considered as a second science subject for admission.
Indirect Entry
Requirements: For admissibility into Year 2, applicants must have:
- At least Credit in Diploma in General Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Forestry and Resource Management, Home Economics and other agriculture related diplomas obtained from an institution recognized by NUL.
- Second Division of Secondary Teachers Certificate with Agriculture as a major subject.
- Any other qualification that may be approved by the Senate of the National University of Lesotho from time to time.
- Candidates who qualify through the Diploma in Agriculture, Diploma in Forestry and Resource Management or Diploma in Agricultural Education into specialized Agriculture programmes shall be required to have taken and passed Mathematics at least C Grade at Diploma Level.
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURE (GENERAL) – 4 YEARS

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURE (SOIL SCIENCE & RESOURCE CONSERVATION) – 4 YEARS

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CONSUMER SCIENCES – 4 YEARS

B. MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Masters Programmes are offered on a full-time basis only with the following areas:

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL AND RESOURCE ECONOMICS – 2 YEARS
Requirements: Holders of a B.Sc. Agriculture degree or Honours degree in any agricultural discipline deemed equivalent to the agricultural degree offered by NUL. Minimum of Second Class, Second Division degree. Candidates with pass degree can be considered for admission if there is proof of academic potential through extensive field work, research experience and additional training (e.g. Postgraduate Diploma).
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION – 2 YEARS
Requirements: Holders of a B.Sc. Agriculture degree or Honours degree in any agricultural discipline deemed equivalent to the agricultural degree offered by NUL. Minimum of Second Class, Second Division degree. Candidates with pass degree can be considered for admission if there is proof of academic potential through extensive field work, research experience and additional training (e.g. Postgraduate Diploma).
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN CROP SCIENCE – 2 YEARS
Requirements: Holders of B.Sc. Agriculture or Biological Sciences degree or equivalent from a recognized university/institution. Minimum of Second Class, Second Division degree. Candidates with pass degree may be considered for admission if they have earned a mean of not less than the equivalent of a Second Class, First Division (B) in courses relevant to the intended research area, or have productively worked for a minimum of three (3) uninterrupted years in a relevant area of Crop Production/Crop Science.
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ANIMAL SCIENCE – 2 YEARS
Requirements: Holders of B.Sc. Agriculture degree or equivalent from a recognized university/institution. Minimum of Second Class, Second Division degree. Candidates with a pass degree may be considered for admission if they have earned a mean of not less than the equivalent of Second Class, First Division (B) in the courses relevant to the intended research area, or have productively worked for a minimum of three (3) uninterrupted years in a relevant area of Animal Science and related subjects.
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SOIL SCIENCE – 2 YEARS
Requirements: Holders of a B.Sc. Degree in Agriculture, Soil Science and related disciplines from a recognized university/institution. Minimum of Second Class, Second Division degree. Fields of specialization: Soil Conservation and Land Management; Soil Survey; Land Evaluation and Land Use; Soil Fertility Management; Soil Chemistry; and Soil Physics.
C. DOCTORATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES (NOT LESS THAN 4 YEARS)
Offered in the same areas of:
- Agricultural and Resource Economics
- Agricultural Extension
- Animal Science
- Crop Science
- Soil Science and Resource Conservation
Requirements: Minimum requirement for admission into the Doctorate degree (PhD) is a Master of Science Agriculture in the relevant area or its equivalent.
