- The training for Nursing Assistants aims at increasing manpower to provide auxiliary duties enabling the professional nurse to do more complex duties. The program prepares a Nursing Assistant who will assist the professional nurse in a variety of Health care settings in the delivery of promotive, curative and rehabilitative services. The adoption of PHC as per the Alma Ata declaration of 1979 calls for governments to increase health capacity in all levels of health care . This is a 15 months full time certificate program. It consists of class work and practical sessions.

It is also aimed at producing nurses who can respond to national health needs at all levels of health care services through integration of Primary Health Care strategy and respond to emerging health challenges of the 21st century and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

- Birthing is a natural phenomenon and a basic component of human existence. It is usually accompanied by unforeseen complications /problems hence the need to provide the Nursing Health care Professionals with appropriate knowledge, skills and attitude.
- The topography of the country mandates that nursing professional be equipped with the midwifery skills to reach inaccessible areas of the country where medical personnel are limited.
