Botswana Accountancy College Students Investment Battlefield Competition

BAC has partnered with the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) in executing and
hosting the Students Investment Battlefield Competition with the finale hosted at the The Global
Expo Botswana (GEB) is organized by BITC.

Global Expo Botswana aims to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), facilitate the expansion of
domestic investment, promote exports of locally produced goods and services, and promote trade
between Botswana and other countries. This partnership aims to instill and promote
entrepreneurship amongst the youth and create a platform for local entrepreneurs to receive
venture capital.

As a Business School, BAC participates in various business-related activities outside the
traditional classroom set-up, to provide and establish opportunities for collaboration with industry
to provide relevant resources and to align its curriculum with industry needs for the benefit of the
BAC graduate. Partnering with BITC is one example of the activities that BAC undertakes to
achieve this.

APPLICATIONS GUIDELINES
The following guidelines will be followed by the students in order to qualify to participate in the
competition.

  1. BAC students from any programme are eligible to enter the competition
  2. Applicants should submit a letter of motivation
  3. Students should complete an application form
  4. There is no application fee
  5. Applicants are required to include 2 next of kin contact details and Curriculum Vitae with a
    minimum of 2 references
  6. Shortlisted applicants should be available to present their business proposal at stage 2 and
    stage 3 presentations

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Students are expected to follow the set guidelines to complete their business proposals. These
are listed as follows;

  1. Proposals should be written in Arial Font size 12
  2. Submissions should be emailed to marketing@bac.ac.bw and Subject: 2021 STUDENTS
    INVESTMENT BATTLEFIELD
  3. Submissions should be done on or before 9th July 2021 before close of business

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

All student application forms are expected to meet the set general terms and conditions as
outlined below;
Entry is open to BAC students only across all programmes and year of study.
By applying to the BAC Students Investment Battlefield, applicants acknowledge the terms
and criteria set to award prizes for the competition and that BAC and all stakeholders will
uphold the highest moral and professional conduct on behalf of the College.
Incomplete applications will not be considered for shortlisting.
BAC has the right to cancel the prizes awarded to the top applicants when the College deems
the recipient to be acting in a manner that brings the College and the competition into
disrepute.
BAC will not be held liable for any costs associated with idea generation and submission into
the competition.
Winners cannot change their initial idea or execution at project implementation stage but can
only enhance the winning idea.
Winners should commit to complete their project implementation within 2 years of winning
the prize.
Seed Capital should only be used for the purpose of implementing the business idea or
project. The funds cannot be diverted to fund other projects or initiatives of the winner.
To ensure objectivity, the competition evaluation panel will comprise of BAC staff and
personnel identified from industry also to bring high expertise and quality to the competition.
The College will set up a committee to evaluate the execution of the proposed business ideas,
and the committee will act as advisors to the College for the issuance of funds to competition
winners.
By entering the competition, applicants and winners’ express interest in becoming Brand
Ambassadors for the competition and their projects and ideas will be used to drive publicity
for the competition and the College.
The winning business ideas will be profiled and used for BAC promotional activities.
All business proposals must provide details on the business concept, its benefit to the
industry, community and or nation, a project plan showing how the innovative project will be
implemented, business plan outlining all costs associated with the project and return on
investment.
The business proposal must be a solution that can be used to provide solutions for either
business or societal needs within their environment.
Students are allowed to submit their application as a team, the team leader will do the final
presentation to the panelists, supported by the team. In this scenario the project team and
their roles must be clearly outlined in the project plan.
Students are allowed to engage their lecturers for guidance on their project or business plan
proposals.

SELECTION PROCESS
Stage 1: All received applications will be screened to check eligibility of the applications and to
check compliance to minimum entry requirements. Proposals will also be checked for originality
and authenticity. These will be screened and the top ten selected for the next stage.
Stage 2: Each of the top 10 students will make a 10 minute presentation to a panel of judges to
evaluate the level of reasonability of the business proposal for feasibility of the business or
innovative idea. This includes the sustainability of the project post the competition. Out of
these, the top 5 students will be selected to compete at the next level during the Global
Expo Botswana.
Stage 3: The top 5 finalists will pitch their ideas to a panel of venture capitalists and industry
experts to convince them of the feasibility of their innovative idea and to stand a chance to win
the business start- up capital.
