University of Malawi Graduation Ceremony for 2019/2020 Graduands

PRESS RELEASE-UNIVERSITY OF MALAWI BLENDED CONGREGATION FOR THE 2019/2020 GRADUANDS

The University of Malawi wishes to inform graduands and the general public that its second Congregation for 2021 will be held on Wednesday, 8 th December, 2021 in the Great Hall at University of Malawi in Zomba from 7:30 a.m.Graduands and the general public should note that, the Chancellor of the University, His Excellency the State President, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, has delegated the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Al Mtenje to preside over the graduation.Kindly also note that due to the gazetted preventive, management and control measures of COVID-19, A MAXIMUM OF 465 OUT OF 939 GRADUANDS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND A PHYSICAL GRADUATION CEREMONY in the Great Hall. Only a limited number of CONGREGATION STAFF AND INVITED GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS shall be allowed to meet the legally allowed in-door gathering number of 500 people. GRADUANDS AND GUARDIANS SHOULD FURTHER NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES OF GRADUANDS ARE THE ONES WHO SHALL ATTEND THE PHYSICAL GRADUATION CEREMONY:


1. Those graduating with credit;
2. Those graduating with distinction
3. Those graduating with an Honours degree;
4. Those graduating with a Masters Degree; and
5. Those graduating with a PhD.


ALL GRADUANDS WITH A PASS AND THOSE GRADUATING WITH POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMAS SHALL GRADUATE VIRTUALLY OR IN ABSENTIA. During the ceremony, the remaining graduands, parents and guardians will follow the proceedings through virtual graduation links on You-tube, Facebook and CHANCO Television which shall be communicated in due course.

GRADUATION ARRANGEMENTS
Graduands, not attending the physical graduation, are requested to verify their details and upload their passport size photo taken in University of Malawi regalia, with white
background, which will be used for live streaming on graduation day through the following College based links:

The uploading of passport size photo should be done by Monday, 21 st November, 2021. The University of Malawi reserves the rights to choose the best picture for the function.
Kindly note that in the unlikely event of a graduand’s failure to submit a passport size photo in the prescribed format, the University shall use the photo used during admission
of the candidate into the programme.


ACADEMIC DRESS
Academic dress for the Congregation shall be available for hire from Tuesday, 9 th November, 2021 from graduands’ respective universities for the purpose of taking graduation passport size photo. Graduands that shall only need the academic regalia for graduation photo shall pay K4, 000 and the gown shall be returned immediately after the photo has been taken by designated College photographers. In addition, those who would wish to have their photos taken outside the campus shall hire the gown at the following
cost:

(a) Diploma Set – K8, 000

All graduands must return their academic dress by 4pm on the following day after hiring. Any unreturned academic dress shall attract a penalty fee equivalent to the hiring fee of the respective gown for each subsequent day of delay payable before the release of the certificate.Candidates who owe the College any money or are yet to sit for supplementary examinations have not been included in this graduation.


SIGNING IN THE GRADUATE REGISTER AND COLLECTION OF CERTIFICATES

For graduands who shall graduate in absentia, UNIMA has arranged that graduates shall sign in the Graduate Register and collect their certificate in designated areas as follows:


i. Eastern Region


Date: Wednesday 8 th -Thursday, 9 th December, 2021
Time: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00pm to 5:00pm each day
Venue: Great Hall, University of Malawi in Zomba.


ii. Southern Region


Date: Friday, 10 th -Saturday, 11 th December, 2021
Time: 8:00 am to 12 noon and 1:00pm to 5:00pm each day
Venue: Sports Complex, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Blantyre.


iii. Central Region


Date: Monday, 13 th – Tuesday,14 th December, 2021
Time: 8:00 am to 12 noon and 1:00pm to 5:00pm each day
Venue: Kamuzu College of Nursing, Lilongwe Campus.


iv. Northern Region


Date: Wednesday, 15 th -Thursday, 16 th December, 2021
Time: 8:00 am to 12 noon and 1:00pm to 5:00pm each day
Venue: Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), Mzuzu Campus at Luwinga.


Graduands are further informed that in order to collect their certificate, they are supposed to have a letter of introduction duly signed by the Assistant Registrar (Academic) for their
College or university and their Malawi National Identity Card. Graduates who shall fail to produce either of the two aforementioned documents shall not be given their Certificate. In addition, they will not be allowed to sign in the Graduate Register.You are further advised that letters of introduction shall be ready for collection from Monday, 8 th November, 2021 in all the universities.
