Programme Objective 

The Bachelor of Science Nursing (Top-up) programme is accredited by the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB).

The programme will enable you to develop the required critical, enquiring approach to nursing that supports the high quality, safe, evidence based and effective care across dynamic, contemporary healthcare environments. Graduates of this programme will possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to practice collaboratively across health care settings and communities and within the context of the Singapore Nursing Board’s Domains of Practice and the global perspectives of health.

Methods of Assessment

A variety of formative and summative assessment methods are used in the programme. Each module is assessed on whether students have met its learning outcomes. Formative feedback is provided to inform you on how you are progressing and to provide you with constructive guidance to inform your development. The Programme has a set of evidence-based standards around student feedback, which will help ensure that you receive the highest quality formative feedback and ‘feed-forward’. Assessment methods include the use of essays; projects; portfolios; reflective analysis and practical assessments or Observable Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).

Professor Susan Dawkes from Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) gives an overview of the Bachelor of Science Nursing (Top-Up) programme here at MDIS. This programme is awarded by Edinburgh Napier University, UK and accredited by Singapore Nursing Board.  It is fully taught by the ENU faculty, the largest School of Health and Social Care in Scotland.

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will have the knowledge and skills to gain graduate-level employment as a Nurse, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Nurse Manager, Nurse Educator or Nurse Researcher. Graduates can also further their studies by taking up a Master’s Degree to pursue career prospects in more senior positions.

Established in 1956, MDIS is Singapore’s oldest not-for-profit learning institution. It has been ranked as the 2nd top Private Education Institution in Singapore by the Cybermetrics Lab in Jan 2017. Its nursing bachelor is awarded by Edinburgh Napier University, one of Scotland’s largest nursing and midwifery education providers, and ranked amongst the top 5% of the world’s universities by Times Higher Education. Come 2018, MDIS will have a dedicated nursing school, the first for a PEI.

Programme Duration: Part-time basis, 24 months

Accreditation: The degree has been accredited by SNB. MDIS is also EduTrust certified.

Curriculum: Some things that students will learn are the Management of Chronic Disease and how to promote Excellence in Older People’s Care.

Course Fees: SGD 19,260.00

Prospects: According to MDIS’s graduate surveys, 75-80% of their graduates generally find jobs within 6 months of graduation. For nurses specifically, you can expect more senior/graduate-level positions such as Clinical Nurse Consultant to be open to you.
