In our drive to intensify and enhance research output, and lead Botswana into a knowledge-based economy, the University of Botswana offers PhD Scholarships in all UB Faculties which offer PhD Programmes.
Eligibility
The UB PhD scholarship is open to local and international applicants seeking full-time PhD studies in any discipline at the University of Botswana. To qualify, applicants must be admitted or be eligible for admission to a PhD programme at UB.
Applicants who are already enrolled in an MPhil/PhD programme MUST have successfully transferred into PhD candidacy at the University of Botswana for them to be considered. The Scholarship will be awarded to the top-ranked applicants with outstanding academic achievements or research potential.
The UB PhD scholarship will not normally be awarded to an applicant holding another award which directly duplicates the purpose of the UB PhD scholarship program.
Continuing PhD students within three years of their PhD studies are eligible to apply. However, students on extended study periods are NOT eligible.
Application Process
An application should be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies as a single PDF document with the following;
1. Application letter which includes motivation for applying for the scholarship (1-2 pages).
2. Applicant’s abridged CV (2 pages maximum) detailing academic record, teaching and other work experience, research outputs and engagement.
3. Research proposal (2 pages maximum outlining the research topic, the problem statement, objectives, key research questions and the methodology).
4. Students already studying for their PhD degrees at the University of Botswana MUST include a recommendation letter from their Main Supervisor. However, those who have already benefited from the scholarship CANNOT reapply if their studies have gone beyond 3 years.
