Overview
The purpose of the Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education is to facilitate the professional development of teachers/lecturers in higher education as reflexive practitioners by deepening their engagement with higher education as a distinct field of scholarship and research.
It offers an opportunity for Higher Education (HE) professionals to deepen their understanding of principles, theoretical concepts and the policy context of Higher Education. It enhances their ability to facilitate, and assess participants’ learning and engage in curriculum design and development mindful of the quality assurance and use of modern technology.
Admission Requirements
The PGDHE Programme aims at equipping teachers and researchers working in higher education with skills and knowledge in this subsector. The participants in this Programme should:
a) Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in their own discipline;
b) Hold any rank or position in their own discipline in an institution of higher learning and be teaching in higher education; and
c) Be computer literate

Exit level Outcomes
At the exit level of this Programme participants should be able to:

● critically engage with higher education as a unique field of study in its own right to develop creative responses to challenges
in teaching and learning practice;
● exhibit professional knowledge, skills and attitudes associated with an effective higher education teacher;
● analyse the higher education context at all levels (globally, nationally, institutionally, departmentally, disciplinary etc.) and undertake reforms and innovations in Lesotho Higher Education;
● apply reflective practice and praxis in their conduct as professional educators and undertake research in Scholarship of
Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and in their discipline to improve the quality of teaching and learning, and students’ throughput rates.
● consider not only disciplinary knowledge in their teaching, but also theory regarding the ways students construct that knowledge to design and develop curriculum for their courses;
● implement appropriate strategies and techniques that encourage active learning and student-centred teaching using various learning technologies; and
● engage in community outreach projects as one of the core functions of a Higher Education Institution.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment criteria for the programme is as follows:
● Completion of all modules;
● Research output or portfolio (electronic version of the report and bound hard copies);
● Grading for each course;
● Academic writing (would have participated in capacity building on academic writing – the reports should reflect the full acquisition of writing skills); and
● Internal and external examinations of the reports OR portfolio.
Certification

The successful candidate will be awarded with a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (NQF Level 8).
