OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE OF AN ELECTRICIAN
AFTER GOING THROUGH THE UNDERLYING TRAINING PROGRAMME THE ELECTRICIAN IS QUALIFIED TO:
Perform Work Assignment
Apply basic Entrepreneurship skills
IN THE AREA OF:
Maintenance and Repair
THEIR TASKS INVOLVE:
- Repairing, Inspecting and Testing
- Fault Finding and Diagnosis
- Installing Electrical Equipment
THEIR PRIMARY TASKS:
- Preparing Work for a specified condition
- Installing Cables, Steel and Rigid, P.V.C. Conduit Work
- Installation of Basic Electronic Equipment
- Earthing Equipment Installation work
- Moving Loads, e.g. Heavy Transformers, Motors, Switchgears
- Maintenance, Repairing and Servicing of domestic and industrial refrigeration
The tasks are performed without supervision and include independent planning, execution and control.
The relevant laws, regulations are to be observed.

Two years of training at VOCTIM - Structure of Training:
12 Months Basic Training at VOCTIM
12 Months Training on the Job at Industry
12 Months Advanced Training at VOCTIM - Identification of Entry Level
Form III Certificate ( Junior Certificate )
Minimum Symbol : English ( C ), Maths ( C ) and Science ( C )
Pass Entry Interview - Work Assessment
Throughout the training programme the trainees
Practical and theoretical work will be progressively
Assessed and reported. - Examination
End of 1 st year: City & Guilds of London Institute Examination Part I ( 8230 )
End of 3 rd year: City & Guilds of London Institute Examination Part II ( 8230 ) - Industrial Attachment
2nd year Industry Attachment:
The type and number of skills involved in, on the job training will vary from company to company. During the time of Industry Attachment there should be a Logbook established to suggest areas of activity in the workshops.With an apprenticeship contract and a pass in City and Guilds Part II Certificate the
trainee is automatically issued on request a Grade II Certificate by the DIVT
