Athlone District Hospital Job Vacancies

With a population of around 30,000 Lobatse is a large town in south-eastern Botswana. It lies on a main road and a rail line about 45 miles southwest of Gaborone, the national capital.

Lobatse is the site of the Botswana Meat Commission, which operates one of the largest meat processing plants in Africa. In addition, the town has a tannery, a canning factory, and a soap factory. Lobatse is also the seat of the High Court of Botswana and the headquarters of the Department of Geological Survey.

The hospital is situated in this southern district of Botswana and is well-known for its care of AIDS patients and has developed several community prevention strategies. As a district hospital it serves many patients from the entire district. It recently has enjoyed considerable investment and is beginning a partnership with the University of Botswana to train Botswana’s new Doctors.

Established in 1929, Athlone Hospital in Lobatse was the first government hospital in Botswana during the colonial era. Before its inception, only mission hospitals such as Scottish Livingstone in Molepolole and Seventh Day Adventist in Kanye were operational.
