The home of exceptional students and eminent academics, Boitekanelo College has over the years
positioned itself as a leading contributor to regional knowledge on health education and generating
high level thinkers within the health sector.

The college offers real world training experience that
prepares students for a future in the health sector across the region.
The college, then operating as Boitekanelo Training Institute (BTI) opened its door to the first batch
of students in May 2007.In 2008 Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) accredited the then BTI,
which later changed its name to Boitekanelo College in 2011 as it began to upgrade programmes
from Certificate to Diploma and Degree levels.

The college is fully recognized by the Ministry of
Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology and Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) registered the college in December 2010 and it is
recognized as a tertiary education provider. Boitekanelo College is also registered for consultancy
services in health care. The college operates from its state of the art campus in Tlokweng and its
proximity to Gaborone, one of the peaceful and exciting capital cities in the region, certainly makes
it a unique place of study.

The college has over time developed strong links with the health sector
and works closely with some of the leading referral hospitals in Botswana.
Boitekanelo College’s tradition of excellence in clinical education is perpetuated not only through the
diversity of the patient population that medical students encounter but also through their early
exposure to clinical care.

The College’s curriculum includes systems based/multidisciplinary
instruction in the basic sciences and early introduction to clinical/ambulatory care.Teaching methods
such as lectures in laboratories, small group instruction and self-directed learning challenge students
to learn core science in the context of patient problems drawn from the bedside and the clinic
through the state of the art simulation.

exciting academic year. In particular, I would like to express my
sincere welcome to new students and also to thank them for
choosing Boitekanelo College as home for their studies.
This year brings about exciting challenges which are not
necessarily new. One of the challenges that academic
institutions face is cultivating, nurturing and sustaining learners’
curiosity and supporting their pursuit of knowledge that is
transformative. To address this challenge, the College embodies
a learner-centered teaching approach and transformative
learning and as such provides a learning environment that
fosters development of learners’ critical and creative thinking.
Further, Boitekanelo College offers programs that prepare
learners to transition into the workplace through work integrated
learning. We also recognize the need to utilize technology in our
interaction with learners in todays’ digital economy;
hence the College has deliberately embarked on a digital journey
to transform our learning and teaching.

As an academic institution, we are alive to the fact that student support services is pivotal to students’
learning experience and ultimate academic success and as such the College provides exceptional
student support services. To enrich our learner’s life, we offer support services that do not only focus on

the curriculum is reviewed with the input of international
educators from other parts of the world most of which are more
developed than our country

thus placing Boitekanelo College at par with other colleges outside the country and of course meeting
international standards. Hosting guest lecturers is one of the benefits of these Memorandum of
Understanding the college stands to enjoy, making students’ learning experience with us all the more
informative and exciting.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

The School of Public Health prides itself in its responsibility to improve and protect the health of Botswana and Africa’s population. This is achieved through the School’s innovative approach to curricula design
that takes
cognizance of local and trans-border health issues. Central to the School’s academic offerings (which are
constantly appraised to remain relevant) is prevention of diseases and promotion of health through
teaching, research, and community involvement. Aligned to the College’s vision, the School of Public
Health seeks to be the regional center of excellence with core emphasis on a holistic (public) health
education and training. To that extent, the School exists to provide excellent life-long learning opportunities to learners by inspiring their minds to aspire, allowing them to function as leading agents of change
