Domasi Teachers Training School Courses Offered

TRAINING PROGRAMMES IN DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (SECONDARY) TENABLE AT DOMASI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION IN NOVEMBER, THROUGH FACE-TO-FACE (RESIDENTIAL) MODE OF DELIVERY

  1. Applications are invited from suitably qualified Malawians for a three year residential training course leading, on successful completion, to a Diploma in Education in Science or Humanities.
  2. Entry Requirements
    Applicants must be:
    a) School Leavers who are holders of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent obtained in 2011, 2012 or 2013 with credits in six subjects including English/ English Language.
    OR
    b) Serving qualified primary school teachers with a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience as qualified teachers at that level. They should also be holders of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent obtained within the past ten years with credits in six subjects including English/ English Language.
    c) Applicants should not be more than 45 years of age.
  3. Programmes and Qualifications
    Applicants must have an MSCE (or its equivalent) with at least credits in six (6) subjects including English/ English Language and an aggregate of ten (10) points or less in the two teaching subjects they wish to study within the following programmes:
    Programme A : Diploma in Education (Sciences)
    (i) Mathematics and Biology
    (ii) Mathematics and Physical Science
    (iii) Mathematics and Agriculture
    (iv) Mathematics and Physical Education
    (v) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and Agriculture
    (vi) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and Biology
    (vii) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and Mathematics.
    Applicants for combinations (i), (ii) (iii) and (iv) must have at least credits in English/English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Physical Science/General Science and any other two subjects.
    Due to the rigour of the Physical Education practicals, only those who are medically and physically fit should apply for combination (iv). Shortlisted applicants will be required to sign a consent form.
    Applicants for combinations (v), (vi) and (vii) must have at least credits in English/English Language, Mathematics and any other four subjects, two of which should be the following subjects: Biology, Home Economics, Physical Science/General Science and Agriculture.
    Programme B: Diploma in Education (Humanities)
    i. English and Linguistics and African Languages
    ii. English and French
    iii. French and Linguistics and African Languages
    iv. Geography and History
    v. Geography and Social Studies
    vi. Geography and Theology and Religious Studies
    vii. History and Social Studies
    viii. History and Theology and Religious Studies
    ix. Social Studies and Theology and Religious Studies
    x. Physical Education and History
    xi. Physical Education and Social Studies
    Applicants for option i to iii, iv, to ix must have credits in Chichewa and English/ English Languages and any other four (4) subjects. Those opting for French should also have a credit in French.
    Applicants for options iv to xi must have at least credits in English/English Language and five other subjects including two of the following: Bible Knowledge, Geography, History, Life Skills and Social and Development Studies, Chichewa and French.
    Due to the rigour of the Physical Education practicals only those who are medically and physically fit should apply. Short listed applicants will be required to sign a consent form.
  4. All short listed applicants will be required to sit for an aptitude test in 3 papers: Numerical, Communication and Reasoning skills.
  5. Training Conditions
    i. Both serving teachers and school leavers will be required to pay a financial contribution towards boarding expenses, which will be determined by Government from time to time.
    ii. Domasi College of Education will not be responsible for training allowances
  6. Method of application
    Applicants should apply for only ONE programme clearly indicating:
    a. Which programme they are applying for;
    b. The two preferred teaching subjects;
    c. Actual MSCE (or its equivalent) grades in all subjects, with dates when they were obtained. Grades from 2 certificates will not be allowed.
    d. Years of service and Teaching Certificate Number (for serving teachers’ only); and
    e. Age.
    Serving teachers in public schools should submit their applications through their employer ie District Education Managers. Those in private schools should apply through their employer.
  7. Processing fee
    All applicants should pay a non refundable processing fee of K4,000 . The processing fee should be deposited directly into the following bank account:

    NB:
    Former DCE students who were withdrawn on academic or disciplinary grounds must not apply for this training.
    Special needs students are encouraged to apply for programme B (i) – (ix)
    Those who have applied for Distance Programme need not apply.
    Do not send your original certificates or notification of results.
