Eastern Margin in Botswana

The east of Botswana is not necessarily popular for hosting the tourist highlights of the country, however, on closer inspection, travelers will find some nice insider tips.  The larger cities such as Francistown or Gaborone, are also not really the most exciting cities in Africa, but some nice spots can be found as well. Archaeologically, the east of Botswana has much to offer, including rock paintings and archaeological sites.

Geography and climate in Eastern Botswana

While most parts of Botswana are flat and rather unexciting, there are some scenic areas to the east of Botswana, most notably the Northern Tuli Game Reserve (Tuli Block).

As in the rest of Botswana, the climate of the East is characterized by pleasantly mild winters with almost no rain and warm to hot summers with heavy rainfall occurring every now and then.

The eastern part of Botswana is much more industrialized and urbanized and has a much higher population density than the rest of the country. Wildlife is less common here. In the parks of this region, however, there are a variety of wildlife species, for example, the world’s largest elephant population on private land.

The Khama Rhino Sanctuary is a nice stopover in eastern Botswana, where you can see the endangered white and black rhinoceros. In addition to the rhinos, you can also observe jackals, wildebeests, various antelopes, giraffes, ostriches, and many other animals.
