How to Check Voter Registration in Zimbabwe

The open register is an extract of the electoral register which can be bought by any person, company or organisation. The open register is used by: businesses checking the identity and address of people who apply for their services such as insurance, goods hire and property rental, as well as when they shop online.

How to register

Documents required for: –

Registration
  •  National Identity Card (metal, plastic or waiting pass with holder’s picture) or
  •  Valid Zimbabwean passport and
  •  Proof of residence (For those who cannot produce proof of residence, an affidavit is available at the Registration)
Inspection
  •  National Identity Card (metal, plastic or waiting pass with holder’s picture) or
  •  Valid Zimbabwean passport
  •   Proof of residence (For those who cannot produce proof of residence, an affidavit is available at the Registration)
Transfer
  •  National Identity Card (metal, plastic or waiting pass with holder’s picture) or
  •  Valid Zimbabwean passport and
  •  Proof of residence or affidavit

NB ZEC will advise the public when registration resumes. The Commission is currently waiting for the alignment of the electoral Act to the Constitution. Any queries can be directed to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission provincial or district offices located in each respective province or district.

Who has access to the electoral register?

Who uses the electoral register? Election staff, political parties, candidates and holders of elected office use the register for electoral purposes. Your local council and the British Library hold copies that anyone may look at under supervision.

What is the difference between an open register and a full register?

There are 2 versions of the electoral register – the full version and the ‘open register’ (known as the ‘edited register’ in Northern Ireland). If you registered to vote anonymously your details will not appear on either version of the electoral register. You will still be able to vote.
