Khalifa University (Arabic: جامعة خليفة) is a public research university located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It was ranked as the 181st best university in the world by QS world university rankings of 2023.

Founded in 2007 by a decree issued by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Khalifa University was established to support a knowledge-based economy that will contribute to the state’s post-oil future.

Undergraduate programs

STEP 2: KNOW THE APPLICATION DEADLINE

All UAE National and international applicants who graduated from high school up to two years ago (including students transferring from other universities) are eligible to apply. Admissions for the Fall term will start on 16 January and will be open until 2 June.

STEP 3: REVIEW THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants with UAE High School Certificates (UAE Nationals and Expats inside the UAE) (New Admission Criteria)

KU is no longer entertaining a Foundation Year, and hence, there will be no conditional acceptances starting Fall.

By the latest MOE declaration related to high school averages and EmSAT tests, KU has updated its admission requirements as follows:

  • High School Certificate:
    • Applicants should have graduated from high school no later than two years before the current year (not before the academic year).
    • Applicants must hold a UAE High School Certificate with the following minimum averages:
      • 75% Elite Track
      • 80% Advanced Track
      • 90% General Track
      • 75%, or its equivalent, from all other curricula
      • Applied Stream applicants are not eligible for admission
  • A minimum score of achievement in each of the following EMSAT subjects (Validity of EmSAT scores: 18 months), or, the below indicated new EmSAT alternatives/replacements:
    • EmSAT English 1400
      • OR, IELTS (Academic): 6.0 OR TOEFL iBT: 79 (Note: TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two calendar years only and should be taken from an approved testing centre. (TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language| IELTS – International English Language Testing System)
    • EmSAT Math 1250
    • EmSAT Physics 1000
    • EmSAT Computer Science (Java, C++, or, Python) 1000
    • One EmSAT elective:
      • EmSAT Chemistry 1000 OR EmSAT Biology 1000
    •  EmSAT Arabic 700 (For non-Arabic speakers, EmSAT Arabic can be waived)

Satisfactory entrance interview students must participate in a personal interview conducted by a Khalifa University admissions committee.

During the interview, students will be assessed on:

A. Ability to communicate in English

B. Familiarity with the relevant profession

C. Commitment to pursue a professional degree program

D. Reasons for applying to attend Khalifa University

E. Potential leadership capabilities

International Applicants Outside UAE

Students who have completed their high school outside the UAE must provide one of the following certificates to be considered for admission:

American Curriculum

A. A minimum grade of 3 in all 3 AP courses including Math, Physics, Biology or Chemistry, and, Computer Science.

B. SAT Math score > 700 (preferable)

British Curriculum (IGCSE)

A. Minimum grade of C in Eight IGCSE: 5 O Subjects including Math, Physics, Biology or Chemistry, and, Computer Science; in addition to 4 AS/A subjects including Math, Physics, Biology or Chemistry, and Computer Science.

IB Curriculum  

A. A minimum score of 4 out of 7 in all courses including Math, Physics, Biology or Chemistry, and, Computer Science.

Proof of any one of the below English language proficiency certificates:

A. IELTS (Academic) minimum score of 6.0

B. TOEFL iBT minimum score of 79

Transfer Applicants from Other Universities (New Admission Criteria)

Students interested in transferring from another university to KU, have to apply through the KU admission website/portal, and, meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Should be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.5 or greater.
  • They should be eligible to continue their enrollment at the institution from which they wish to transfer.
  • Should be transferring from a reputable and lawfully accredited university.
  • Should have graduated from High School no later than two years prior to the current year.
  • A minimum score of achievement in each of the following EMSAT subjects (Validity of EmSAT scores: 18 months), or, the below indicated new EmSAT alternatives/replacements:
    • EmSAT English 1400
