The Midlands State University (MSU), a fast growing institution of higher learning in Zimbabwe, which is a real citadel for the socio-economic development of its communities, was established through an Act of Parliament No 4 of 1999.  MSU opened its doors to students in 2000, with a student population of only 400. Through various modes of entry, such as conventional, parallel, block release and visiting school, MSU has grown from such humble beginnings to become an engaged, stakeholder-driven and expanding multi-campus institution with a population of 22 700 students of all backgrounds and ages.

To grow the university to 10 faculties with 35000 students by 2023, which growth would be supported by appropriate teaching, learning, and research facilities.
