The Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Environment is mandated to provide policy guidance and direction on all matters concerning Malawi’s natural resources, energy, and environmental management.
Out of the current Government Nine Priority Areas, the Ministry is implementing Priority Number Five which include Climate Change, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, and Priority Number Nine which tackles Energy and Mining.
The Ministry’s mission is to coordinate, facilitate and promote participation of all stakeholders in the sustainable development, utilization and management of natural resources, energy and environment for socio-economic growth and development.
Administration and Management
The Department is responsible for the coordination of all departments under the ministry and it is housed at the Ministry headquarters at Capital Hill.
2. Department of Energy Affairs
The Department is responsible for all energy matters and it is housed at City Centre
3. Department of Environmental Affairs
The Department is responsible for all matters related to the environment and it is housed at City Centre.
4. Department of Forestry
The Department handles all matters to do with Malawi’s Forest reserves and it is housed at City Centre
5. Department of Geological Survey
The Department is based in Zomba and it is responsible for all issues to do with geology
6. Department of Mines
All matters to do with the Mining sector are handled by this Department and it is located in Lilongwe Old Town.
7. Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services
The Department is responsible for all matters to do with climate change and meteorological services such As climate and weather. The Department is based in Blantyre.
