Mulanje Mission College of Nursing Courses Offered

Introduction

Owned by Church of Central African Presbytery, Blantyre Synod. Established in 1930 by Scottish Missionaries. In its early days, trained lay midwives in vernacular. A member of the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM)

Entry requirements

  • Offers a Three Year Nursing and Midwifery Technician Diploma. College admits both male and female students.
  • Minimum age on admission is 16 and maximum 40
  • Students are admitted from any religious  and social background
  • Students need to have a full Malawi School Certificate of Education with credit passes in three Science Subjects with Biology and Physical Science being mandatory credits.

Current Fees

  • Tuition and boarding fees is MK1, 200,000.00 per year and this is payable in two instalments. Half payment at the beginning of the first semester and second payment at the beginning of the second semester

Major successes

  • Over 90% pass rate in national licensure examinations
  • Maintained students discipline in line with Christian values
  • Very positive feedback from employers on the quality of our graduates with some being awarded national accolades by the National organization of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM) and the Association of Malawian Midwives (AMAMI)
  • Maintained good working relationship with government and developmental partners
  • Maintained students calendar in accordance with master plan
  • Developed a new strategic plan for 2019 to 2024
  • Developed user friendly policies for both students and staff to ensure fair and transparent student and staff recruitment

Challenges

  • Lack of financial support towards students fees in view of discontinued government support and end of project by various developmental partners
  • Shortage of staff and students accommodation

  • Teaching and learning models (Mannequins) including books and computers
  • Furniture (both Staff & Students)

Future Plans

  • Introduce Registered Nurse and Midwifery Diploma and Degree courses as part of Blantyre Synod University
  • Introduce other health related courses such as Pharmacy, Medicine , Public Health and Laboratory
  • Introduce self-off campus accommodation modality for students
