  1. UNDERGRADUATE SUB-DEGREE PROGRAMMES

CERTIFICATE IN STATISTICS – 2 YEARS
Full-fledged programme in Statistics producing individuals with ability to compile data, analyse data and present results.
Requirements: COSC or equivalent in the third class or higher; at least 4 credits, including a credit or higher in Mathematics; at least a D (7) in English Language; a minimum aggregate of 38 for the best six passed subjects.
Career Opportunities: High employment prospects in almost all sectors of the economy be it government, private sector, and international organizations in areas requiring for decision making.
Self-development Opportunity: Any graduate from the Certificate in Statistics, who had an overall performance of a credit or higher has an opportunity to join BA Double Major in Statistics and Demography degree programme (normally in Third year of the programme).

  1. UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES

 
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN STATISTICS AND DEMOGRAPHY (DOUBLE MAJOR) – 4 YEARS
Requirements: C.O.S.C or equivalent in the first or second class; at least four credits, two of which should be in English Language and Mathematics and a minimum aggregate of 34 in the best six passed subjects. Any graduate from the Certificate in Statistics with a Credit or higher.
Career Opportunities: High employment prospects in Public, Private, and Voluntary organizations dealing with population and development Planning and problems at both National and International Levels.
 
BACHELOR OF ACCOUNTING – 4 YEARS
BACHELOR OF MARKETING – 4 YEARS
BACHELOR OF MANAGEMENT – 4 YEARS
Requirements: COSC in the 1st or 2nd Division, 4 credits including English Language and Mathematics, a minimum Aggregate of 34 in the best six passed subjects. Diploma in Management Studies of the Institute of Extra Mural Studies (IEMS) with a Pass with Distinction/Credit, and at least a pass in C.O.S.C Mathematics and English Language OR
Licensed Accountant of the Centre for Accounting Studies (CAS) with at least a pass in C.O.S.C Mathematics and English Language.
Career Opportunities: Accountancy, Taxation, Insurance, Auditing, Financial Planning, Banking Business, Imports and Exports, Marketing and Sales, Commercial Law, Actuarial Science, Information Systems, Office Management and Technology, Administration and Organizational Psychology.
 
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ECONOMICS – 4 YEARS
The Bachelor of Arts in Economics is offered with three subjects combinations called minors:
 

  • Economics with minor in Business Administration
  • Economic with minor in Mathematics
  • Economics with minor in Statistics

 
In each of these programmes of study, students have the opportunity to tailor in their final year of study their degrees into any one of the following concentration streams:
 

  • Business Economics
  • Financial Economics
  • Economic Development
  • Regulatory Policy and Reform

 
Requirements: 1st or 2nd class in C.O.S.C. or its equivalent including 4 credits two of which must be in Mathematics and English Language and the Aggregate of 34 or better.
Department remarks: Demand for places in BA Economics is extremely High and competition is stiff. The department receives far more Applications than places available and as a result highly motivated, 1st class applicants are preferred.
Career Opportunities: Economics graduates are employed in the Public Sector, in the Private Sector, the Financial Sector and in International Organizations, as Researchers, Finance and Investment Analysts, Policy Analysts, Economic Planners, Managers, Bankers, Insurance Officers. Others are Self-Employed as Consultants and Entrepreneurs.
 
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN SOCIOLOGY – 4 YEARS
Requirements: 1st or 2nd class in C.O.S.C. Or its equivalent including 4 credits one of which must be in English Language and the Aggregate of 34 or better.
Career Opportunities: Employed in Public, Private, Civil Society, and International Organizations as Senior Analysts and Administrators, Graduates are also employed in institutions of Higher Learning to pursue Teaching and Research Careers.
 
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ANTHROPOLOGY – 4 YEARS
Requirements: 1st or 2nd class in C.O.S.C. Or its equivalent including 4 credits one of which must be in English Language and the Aggregate of 34 or better.
Career Opportunities: Employed in Public, Private, Civil Society, and International Organizations as Senior Analysts and Administrators, Graduates are also employed in Institutions of Higher Learning to pursue Teaching and Research Careers.

BACHELOR OF ARTS IN POLITICAL SCIENCE – 4 YEARS

Requirements: 1st or 2nd class in C.O.S.C. or its equivalent including 4 credits one of which must be in English Language and the Aggregate of 34 or better.
Or Diploma in Public Administration of the Lesotho Institute of Public Administration and Management (LIPAM) with at least a Pass with Distinction/Credit and at least a Credit in Mathematics at C.O.S.C. for Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration.
Career Opportunities: Employed in Public, Private, Civil Society, and International Organizations as Senior Analysts and Administrators, Graduates are also employed in Institutions of Higher Learning to pursue Teaching and Research Careers.
 
BACHELOR OF SOCIAL WORK – 4 YEARS
Requirements: COSC or its equivalent in the 1st or 2nd class. 4 credits including English Language. A minimum aggregate of 34 for the best six passed subjects.
Career Opportunities: Insurance, Imports and Exports, Marketing and Sales, Commercial Law, Actuarial Science, Office Management and Technology, Administration and Organizational Psychology, Social Worker, Analyst of Policy and its implementation.

  1. POSTGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES

 
POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (HRM) [PART-TIME] – 2 YEARS (under review)
Requirements: The minimum entry requirements will normally be a Bachelor’s Degree in any field of Social Sciences, and or Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of Human Resources Management. A limited number of professional qualifications with substantial knowledge in the field of Human Resources Management will be considered, but applicants may have to sit for any admission test and/or take remedial courses.
Career Opportunity: Human Resources Manager of a firm, university, public or private institutions and a Lecturer, in an institution of higher learning.
 
POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN ECONOMICS – 1 YEAR (BRIDGING)
Requirements: BA Economics with a minimum of pass or better or any other relevant qualification that may be approved by the NUL Senate on the advice of the Department and Faculty.
Career Opportunities: Banking and Insurance, Finance and Investment Analyst, Research and Policy Analyst, Management and Administration, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Journalism etc.

  1. MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAMMES

 
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ECONOMICS – 2 YEARS
Requirements: BA Economics with a minimum of Second Class Second Division or any other relevant qualification that may be approved by NUL Senate on the advice of the department and Faculty.
Career Opportunities: Banking and Insurance, Finance and Investment Analyst, Research & Policy Analysis, Management & Administration, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Journalism (Applies to both Undergraduate & Postgraduate).
 
MASTER OF ARTS IN POLITICAL SCIENCE/PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION – 2 YEARS (under review)
Requirements: BA/BSc. in the Second Class Second Division category Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Political Science, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Sociology and Public Administration with Sociology all obtained at NUL.
Any other qualifications equivalent to BA/BSc obtained from an academic institution recognized by the NUL Senate.
Career Opportunities: Employed in Public, Private, Civil Society, and International Organizations as Senior Analysts and Administrators, Graduates are also employed in institutions of Higher Learning to Pursue Teaching and Research Careers.
 
MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK (FULL-TIME) 2 – 3 YEARS (under review)
Requirements: Bachelor of Social Work or its equivalent in the categories of First Class and/or Second Class Division or Advanced Diploma from recognized institutions.
Career Opportunities: Social Researcher in different companies in Government/Non-Governmental Organizations, International Organizations, Lecturers at Institutions of Higher Learning, Analyse Problems, Policy Formulation and Implementation, Project Manager and Implementer.
