Covering an area of 25 acres, the Victoria Hospital – PMOC complex is situated in Candos in the district of Plaine-Wilhems.
It provides services for the sanitary region number 5, catering essentially for the district of Plaine-Wilhems and the lower half of Black River district. with a population of about 30% of the whole island.

There is also a The Community Hospital Dr Y. Cantin of Black River There are 20 Community Health Centres and 5 Area Health Centres within its catchments area.Historical background Initially a barrack, this institution was converted in July 1922 in a 400-bed hospital.The PMOC was annexed in 1956.
