Sphofaneni Substastion Job Vacancies

The construction of the multimillion Siphofaneni substation forms part of the expansion and strengthening of electricity network aimed at enabling reliability, firm electricity supply and customer satisfaction.

Sphofaneni Substastion is a South African Company that Specializes in Power Systems and Automation Solutions. The company was formed in 2017 by Colin Bailey, Tshepo Malatjie and Jeffrey Nkgudi. The purpose of the company is to offer reliable and efficient services to the customers in the field of Electrical Engineering, and is 100% black owned.

CONCO is a South African based company specialising in the creation of turnkey solutions for the electricity supply industry, based on the design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project and site management of high voltage installations – including substations among others.

Sifiso Dhlamini, SEC’s Corporate Affairs Manager said the construction of the substation was as a result of the Rural Electrification Project, initiated by government with support from the government of the Republic of China on Taiwan. “Some of the 11kV electricity lines within Siphofaneni area have been extended over long distances,” Dhlamini said.

He further mentioned that this would prevent voltage drops that result in unsatisfactory service to rural communities. “Running long lines in this nature is also technically undesirable because a fault on any section of the network affects a number of customers,” he explained.

The signing took place on August 23, 2011 and was performed by SEC’s Managing Director Pius Gumbi, CONCO’s Business Unit Manager Martin Grobler and Projects Engineer Eugene Marais. Also present during the event was SEC’s General Manager – Operations Meshack Kunene and Project Manager Ernest Mkhonta. Dhlamini said once completed, the substation would benefit communities around Duze, Hlutse, Phonjwane, Mphosi, Dvokodvweni and Timbutini among others. “The substation will be designed with the indoor type of outgoing feeders to allow remote operation,” he explained.

Furthermore, Dhlamini said SEC was looking at building more similar substations in other areas across the country. He singled out Nkhaba as the next targeted area for the construction of a rural substation. “This will benefit areas including Mnyokane, Nkomanzi, Majotini, Hawane and surrounding areas,” he said. Dhlamini said CONCO assured that the construction at Siphofaneni will be completed in March 2012.

“We are privileged to have been SEC’s first choice for this project. We have had a good relationship with the company in other projects since 2007. We will use proven methods and equipment to deliver a quality product,” Grobler was quoted saying after the signing.

Dhlamini said Grobler also mentioned that they had also sub-contracted other local construction companies for the project.
