The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Admission Requirement

General Requirements:
The following are the Admission requirements for Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA)
All applicants who wish to apply for direct entry to any of the bachelor’s degree programmes must have one of the following:
General Certificate of Education (G.C.E); ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level:
‘O’ Level: grade 6 or better in six (6) subjects including English, Maths and science
‘A’ Level: passes in three (3) subjects plus general paper
SSSCE/WASSCE:
Grade ‘D’ or C6 or better in three (3) Core including English and Maths and three (3) elective subjects.

Eighteen (18) months/two-year top- up bachelor’s degree:
Applicants to these programmes must have one of the qualifications stated under the general requirement in addition to the HND with specialisation in the same programme they wish to offer at GIMPA.
Three-year (3) bachelor’s degree:
Applicants with the under-listed qualifications qualify for a three-year bachelor’s degree programme:
• GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level
• GBCE – 5 subjects
• ABCE – 3 subjects
• DBS
• Diploma from Accredited Tertiary Institutions in Ghana
• Diploma from Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ)
• Private Secretary
• Teacher’s Cert ‘A’
• Diploma in Nursing
• Institute of Chartered Accountant, Ghana (ACCA Part 1)
• Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (Part 1)
• Association of Certified Accountant (Part 1)
• Institute of Bankers (Part 1)
• GAT
• ATSWA
• RSA Part 2 – 5 subjects
• RSA Part 3 – 3 Subjects
• HND holders who want to offer a programme different from what they offered at the polytechnic.
Four-year (4) bachelor’s degree (lecture period – 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.; Monday to Friday)
SSSCE/WASSCE with grade D or C6 or better in three (3) core including English and Maths and three (3) elective subjects with an aggregate score of not more than 24 in the case of SSSCE and 36 in the case of WASSCE. Applicants must be at least 25 years and working.
Four-year (4) bachelor’s degree (lecture period – 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.; Monday to Friday)
• SSSCE/WASSCE applicants with grade D or C6 or better in three (3) core including English and Maths and three (3) elective subjects with an aggregate score of 24 for SSSCE and 36 for WASSCE or better
• No work experience is required
• No limit on age
Transfer from other universities:
Students from other universities who want to transfer to GIMPA must be in good standing from their former university. The application should include SSSCE, WASSCE or ‘O’ Level results and a transcript from the transferring university. Applicants who transfer from other universities will have to spend at least two years in GIMPA.
Mature Applicants:
Applicants who are 25 years or above, and have at least three (3) years working experience but do not have any of the above listed qualification for direct admission may be admitted if they pass an entrance examination in English, Maths and general paper. Applicants are to provide birth certificates and evidence of working experience.
Note:
• Candidates who do not have the full set of documents should not apply.
• All applicants must submit certified copies of all certificates with their applications.
• All programmes are Non- residential.
How to Apply:
Application forms and brochure for both the regular and HND top-up programmes may be obtained from the Cashiers Office at GIMPA or downloaded from the schools website. Those who download the forms from the site will have to pay on submission.

Admission Requirements

Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE), and West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) candidates:

SSSCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

WASSCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level candidates:

Passes in three (3) GCE Advanced Level subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better).

Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics, a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Art’s subject (for science students).

Admission of Higher National Diploma (HND) candidates to first-degree programmes:

Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (at least second class lower division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a minimum of two (2) years post-HND qualification working experience. Other diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) may be similarly considered.

Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) candidates:

Passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have credit passes in five (5) subjects including English, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE)

Mature Students’ entry:

Mature students entry avenues to tertiary education provide opportunities for people who could not do so earlier to further their education at the tertiary level after years in the workplace.

The applicant must be at least twenty-five (25) years old, at the time of registration and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate document.

An applicant must pass the mature students’ entrance examinations conducted by GIMPA in English, Mathematics and an Aptitude test.

Foreign Qualifications:

All foreign qualifications would be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to tertiary institutions in Ghana in accordance with the National Accreditation Board Act, 2007 [Act 744 (2(2b)].Note should be taken however that the American SAT, TOEFL etc. cannot in themselves be acceptable as entry qualifications into GIMPA.

Professional and other entry qualifications:

All professional certificates and any other qualification beyond the ones specified above would be referred to the National Accreditation Board for the establishment of their equivalences, to determine their eligibility for admission to university. Note that the Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) qualification cannot, in itself, be used for admission into tertiary education institutions and programmes in Ghana.

WASSCE Awaiting Results:
Candidates who write the May/June WASSCE examinations are given the opportunity to apply for provisional admission into the daytime (8:00 am – 3:00 pm) 4-year bachelor’s degree programmes.

Transfer from Other Universities:
Students from other universities who wish to transfer to GIMPA have the opportunity to do so. They must be in good standing from their former university. The application should include applicant’s SSSCE, WASSCE or GCE Ordinary and Advanced levels results, and a transcript from the transferring university.

Interested candidates may download the application forms here. Applicants must submit certified copies of all certificates with their completed applications forms. The completed application form must be accompanied by proof of payment of the relevant application processing fee.

The completed application form with original transcripts, certified copies of certificates, and the bank payment receipt in your name should be submitted to the economics department at the Greenhill campus, Accra.
