Uniswa Faculty of Humanities Admission Requirements

1. BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
(a) A minimum of six passes at IGCSE/SGCSE which must include a C grade or better in English Language and SiSwati or in any other language plus a credit in two of the following subjects:

Agriculture
Chemistry
Commerce/Book-keeping
Economics
English Literature
Geography
General Science
History
Home Economics
Home Management
Human and Social Biology
Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
Physical Science
Physics
Principles of Accounts
Religious Knowledge
OR
(b) A minimum of six passes in the GCE O’ Level which must include a C grade or better in English Language and SiSwati or any other language plus a credit in two of the following subjects:
Agriculture
Chemistry
Commerce/Book-keeping
Economics
English Literature
Geography
General Science
History
Home Economics
Home Management
Human and Social Biology
Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
Physical Science
Physics
Principles of Accounts
Religious Knowledge

(c) An equivalent of (a) or (b).
(d) Mature Age Entry Scheme
DIPLOMA HOLDERS
(a) Holders of a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from UNISWA will be eligible to enter Year 3 of the Degree Programme.
(b) Holders of a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from any other reputable institution of higher learning will be eligible to enter Year 2 or Year 3 on the recommendation of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
(c) Candidates admitted under regulations 2.2 (a) and (b) may be exempted from courses which they have already taken during their Diploma Programme. Exemption from such courses may be approved by Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Humanities, upon determination by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
(d) Candidates admitted under regulations 2.2 (a) and (b) may be required to take courses in Year 1 and Year 2 not taken during the Diploma Programme.
OTHER ADMISSIONS
A student who failed or withdrew from the Diploma Programme, in previous years, shall re-apply for admission. Such as student will be eligible to enter Year 1 or Year 2 or Year 3 of the Degree Programme on the recommendation of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
2. Bachelor of Arts (Humanities)
In addition to the requirements stipulated in the General Regulations, candidates intending to enrol for the Bachelor of Arts in Humanities must have:
a) C grade or better in any two of the following subjects
English Literature, History,
Geography, French,
Religious Knowledge, SiSwati,
b) Plus another credit pass or better in two other subjects drawn from the list below:
Physical Science Chemistry
Physics General Science Biology
Human and Soc. Biology French
Agriculture Commerce/Bookkeeping
Economics Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
Principles of Accounts Home Management
Home Economics Food and Nutrition
Human Development Information Technology
c) A candidate who wishes to take Geography, Environmental Science Planning
must have C or better in IGCSE/SGCSE Mathematics or “O” Level Mathematics.
OR
d) Mature Age Entry Scheme applicable to Degree programmes.
