United Refineries Botswana (Pty) Ltd (URB) is a 100 percent citizen owned company. The company was incorporated in January 2010 with the objective of providing affordable high quality edible vegetable oils using current technologies and systems that optimize efficiency. The mandate of the company is to procure, refine and distribute vegetable oil in Botswana, with particular interest in the Botswana market and also the export market in countries in the SADC region. The company manufactures Crude cooking oil through a refinery.
United Refineries Botswana (Pty) Ltd’s core business is agri-processing and associated infrastructure. In response to the call for economic diversification and creation of employment for citizens, the com- pany has set up an edible oil manufacturing plant at Dumela Estates, Francistown.
The products manufactured include sunflower cooking oil, mayonnaise, margarine and soaps.When fully operational, the plant will have a multiplier effect on the local communities as it will empower citizens, creating downstream value chains within the agricultural sector. Thus, the project will create a ready market for all Batswana with interest in sunflower farming.
