1. DATA ENTRY CLERK – University Office

The University of Malawi Medical Scheme (UNIMED) is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant post of Data Entry Clerk. Interested candidates should posses a diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology or any related field from a recognized and reputable institution and have a minimum of 1 year experience in high volume data entry experience.Candidates with data entry experience in the medical insurance industry will have an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sort, compile and capture electronically data from claims into the Scheme’s Management Information System;
  • Check the accuracy of data entered against source documents;
  • Generate specific reports from the captured data;
  • File and ensure security of source documents;
  • Respond to inquiries regarding captured data as may be required from time to time;
  • Register new membership to the Scheme;
  • Any other duties assigned by competent authorities.

Required Competencies

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites;
  • Ability to operate various data processing software, spreadsheets and other database programs;
  • Ability to handle high volumes of data;
  • Advanced typing speed, high levels of accuracy;
  • Excellent knowledge of record management procedures;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • High level of confidentiality;
  • Ability to follow verbal or written instructions.

2. COLLEGE LIBRARIAN – Chancellor College

The post of College Librarian at Chancellor Collegewill fall vacantsoon following the retirement of Mr. D.B. VuwaPhiri. In view of this development, suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply for this demanding position. Interested candidates should be graduates with suitable professional qualifications and experienceserving as Senior Assistant Librarian or Assistant Librarian. The College is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic professional to continue to develop the Chancellor College library service in an increasingly digital environment.The College Librarian has overall responsibility for the administration of the library, principally serving undergraduates, but also postgraduates, members of the College and visiting scholars. As well as developing collections, both traditional and electronic, the College Librarian will be expected to propose innovative services to meet the changing study patterns of students. He/she will also be expected to play a major role in advising the College on the current and future study and research needs of students and their impact on physical library space.

Duties and Responsibilities

The College Librarian is responsible to the Principal and is expected to carry out the following duties:

  • Sort, compile and capture electronically data from claims into the Scheme’s Management Information System;
  • Providing over all management and administration of the College Library.
  • Directing the development and implementation of Library policies and procedures.
  • Initiating College Library Committee meetings on which he /she serves as the principal spokesman for the Library.
  • Preparing reports on various aspects of Library work, including annual reports.
  • Working hand in hand with senior colleagues who are heads of sections of the Library – Acquisitions/Periodicals, Readers’ Services, and Malawiana/ UN Section in carrying out professional tasks and ready to step in any section whenever a crisis arises.
  • Liaising with leaders in faculties over Library collection development and other issues.
  • Taking care of staff welfare in general.
  • Representing the Library sector at appropriate University Wide meeting e.g. University Library Committee meetings.
