The University of Botswana was founded in 1982. It has grown rapidly to an institution with about 18,000 students.
The university is a comprehensive institution offering courses in both the liberal arts and sciences and a number of professional programs, including business, education, engineering and medicine.
A majority of the academic staff members are from Botswana; however, many instructors also come from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe or other parts of the world.
