University of Malawi The Polytechnic Tuition Fees Structure

The management of the The Malawi Polytechnic has released the School Fees to be paid by each undergraduate and postgraduate (Degree, JUPEB, Part-Time, Masters, Diploma, Hostel, Accommodation and Non-Degree) fresh newly admitted and returning students respectively for the 2020/2021 academic session.

Tuition fees for the academic year are as follows:

First Year Students – MK400, 000.00 (MK200 000.00 per semester)

Mature Entry Students – MK900, 000.00 (MK450 000 per Semester)

MODE OF FEES PAYMENT

All new students will be given their student account number which they will use to deposit their fees.

The following programmes are on offer:

1. Diploma in Secretarial Administration

Admission Requirements: MSCE, 50 words per minute typing speed and shorthand Knowledge

Tuition Fees:   K450, 000.00 per year

Duration:       One year

2. Diploma in Business Management Level 4 (ABMA)

Admission Requirements: MSCE

Tuition Fees: K150, 000.00 per semester. Students to pay  Examination fees

3. Diploma in Journalism & Media Studies Level 4 (ABMA)

Admission Requirements: MSCE

Tuition Fees: K150, 000.00 per semester. Students to pay  Examination fees

4. Diploma in Community Development Level 4 (ABMA)

Admission Requirements: MSCE

Tuition Fees: K150, 000.00 per semester. Students to pay  Examination fees

5. Diploma in Human Resource Management Level 4 (ABMA)

Admission Requirements: MSCE

Tuition Fees: K150, 000.00 per semester. Students to pay Examination fees

6. Diploma in Computing & Information Systems Level  4(ABMA)

Admission Requirements: MSCE

Tuition Fees: K150, 000.00 per semester. Students to pay Examination fees

7. Diploma in Public Health Management Level 4 (ABMA)

Admission Requirements: MSCE

Tuition Fees: K150, 000.00 per semester. Students to pay Examination fees

Application forms can be downloaded from the polytechnic website (www.poly.ac.mw)  or collected from Polytechnic Main campus and Chichiri campus in Blantyre, Polytechnic campus Falls Estate in Lilongwe and  Polytechnic campus  Luwinga in Mzuzu next to Mzuzu International Academy.

Duration: A minimum of 3 years (fulltime) and a maximum of 5 years (part time).

Entry Requirements: Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree in Geographical or related disciplines obtained from recognised institutions of higher learning.

Fee structure: MK3,000,000.00 per academic year for Malawian nationals; and USD 5,000 per academic year for foreign students.

(iii) Doctor of Philosophy in Earth Sciences (by Research)

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMME: PROGRAMME CONSISTS OF SSUPERVISED RESEARCH AND THESIS. IN ADDITION, STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN SEMINARS, READING EXERCISES AND PRESENTATIONS AS MAY BE ARRANGED BY THE DEPARTMENT AND OTHER OFFICES FROM TIME TO TIME.

Duration: A minimum of 3 years (fulltime) and a maximum of 5 years (part time).

Entry Requirements: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Earth Sciences or related disciplines obtained from recognised institutions of higher learning.

Fee structure: MK3,000,000.00 per academic year for Malawian nationals; and USD 5,000 per academic year for foreign students.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

(i) Name of Programme: Master of Science in Conservation Biology

Description of Programme: This is a 2 years programme comprising taught and research components. In the first year students take courses which they must pass before proceeding to the second year. For sustainability, the programme will only be offered if there are a minimum of five registered students.

Additional Entry Requirements: Potential candidates should have a good Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related fields from recognized universities. Those with relevant experience will have an added advantage.

Fee structure: MK3,816,540 for Malawian nationals or USD6,000 for international students for the entire two years.

Name of Programme: Master of Science (Biological Sciences) by Research

Description of Programme: The programme is mainly research oriented, with production and examination of the thesis at the end of study. This programme allows students to undertake studies on various topics that require application of biological principles. These topics are identified in close collaboration with potential supervisors and students are encouraged to secure funding for both tuition and research.

Additional Entry Requirements: potential candidates should have a good Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related fields from recognized universities. Those with relevant experience will have an added advantage.

Fee structure: MK3,816,540 for Malawian nationals or USD6,000 for international students for the entire two years.

Name of Programme: Doctor of Philosophy (Biological Sciences)

Description of Programme: This is a 3 years full time or 5 years part time programme by research. Students undertake studies on various topics that require application of biological principles. These topics are identified in close collaboration with potential supervisors and students are encouraged to secure funding for both tuition and research. In addition, prospective students will be expected to participate and present in departmental as well as faculty seminars from time to time.

Additional Entry Requirements: Potential candidates should have a Master’s degree in Biological sciences or related fields from recognized universities. Those with relevant experience will have an added advantage.

Fee structure: MK3,097,504 for Malawian nationals or USD4,000 for international students per academic year.
