1.0 ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
1.01 A minimum of six (6) passes at SGCSE examination or equivalent including English Language, three (3) of which must be credits obtained in not more than two sittings. Of the three (3) credits, two shall be in the relevant teaching subjects as listed under Group B in regulation 2.03, forming the students approved majors.
OR
1.02 A Secondary Teachers Certificate plus at least two (2) years successful teaching experience. Such qualified candidates will enter the Diploma at second year level.
OR
1.03 A Primary Teachers Certificate pass at credit level plus at least three (3) 0 ‘Level credits in the relevant teaching subjects and a minimum of a pass in English Language and at least two (2) years teaching experience.
OR
1.04 Any other equivalent qualification approved by the Board of Affiliated Institutions.
2.0. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
2.01 The duration of the Diploma programme shall normally be three (3) academic years.
2.02 If a student programme is disrupted during the course of the programme through repetition or other cause, and this has been approved by the College, such a student will be allowed a maximum of seven (7) years within which to complete the course provided she/he does not spend more than one academic year away from College during the programme
2.03 The programme of training will comprise the following groups of subjects.
GROUP A — Professional Studies
- Teaching Practice
- Education
- Special and inclusive education
GROUP B – Content Majors
One subject from each of the following sub-groups

- Geography History
- English Biblical studies*

N.B. The combination of major subjects shall be determined by the college from time to time in line with prevailing school and candidate’s needs.

SEMESTERISATION OF THE SECONDARY TEACHERS’ DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
PREAMBLE
1. The academic year shall be divided into two teaching semesters each consisting of not less than 13 weeks (including a mid-term break). Before the examination begins, there shall be a period of study/revision time the duration of which shall be determined by the college.

NOTE:
1. Where a course is assessed by course work and an examination, the weighting shall be in the ratio 1:1
2. The following courses shall be examined by continuous assessment PTD/STD121 &122 (Blackboard Work I & II) and STD 228 (Principles of Teaching + Micro Teaching II).
3. The teaching practice grade of a student shall not be included in the calculation of the overall mean.
4. Projects must be passed at 50% or better.
5. A student who receives a FAIL grade in any project or practical work shall be required to repeat the project or practical work.
6. No student shall be awarded a diploma without a pass in teaching practice.
