Seven suspects arrested in the foiled torching of MCP offices in LL

Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody seven suspected arsonist connected to the foiled torching of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) headquarters in City Centre in the capital Lilongwe over the weekend, escalating the tension further.
MCP’s Lilongwe South West Member of Parliament Peter Chakhwantha who is also the Party’s director youths and Security confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to Chankhwantha, the suspects have implicated some of the MCP’s big wigs who are advocating for the change of leadership, accusing the Party President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of being undemocratic.
Chakhwantha said the suspected arsonist were apprehended by Party’s security team hired to guard the premises after receiving a tip off from well-wishers.
He said the suspects were found with petrol bombs and metal bars.
Meanwhile Police have instituted investigations on the matter.
