READVERTISEMENT: INVITATION FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2020/21 INTAKE: UNIVERSITY CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (UCE) PROGRAMME
Mzuzu University, through the Faculty of Education, is pleased to invite applications for a one-year programme of study leading to the award of the University Certificate in Education (UCE). The programme is expected to begin in January 2017. The programme
is non-residential and candidates will be required to make their own arrangements for meals and accommodation.
Programme Description
The aim of the programme is to provide a career development opportunity in education for both pre-service and in-service personnel with non-education qualifications.
The programme will be covered in three sessions within a period of one academic year and will be offered using two modes of delivery: face-to-face and distance and independent learning. The face-to-face session will last for 14 weeks and consist of taught courses (intensive induction), the distance and independent learning session will be 6 weeks long, and the third session is the teaching practicum for an entire secondary school
term.
The UCE programme will include the following courses: Introduction to the Teaching Profession; General Teaching Methods; Educational Psychology; Introduction to Sociology of Education; Introduction to Philosophy of Education; Curriculum theory and Practice; Testing Measurements and Evaluation; Educational Leadership and Management;
Introduction to Special Needs Education and Methodology courses in two teaching subjects.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have at least a diploma or bachelor’s degree in any field from a recognized institution.
Fees
The total mandatory fees payable per student for the entire programme is K400,000.00.
For international applicants, the total fees for the entire programme is US$3,000.00.
Boarding and Lodging
This is a non-residential programme and candidates are required to arrange for their own
meals and lodging during face-to-face session and during teaching practicum.
Admission application fee
All applicants should pay a non refundable admission application fee of K8,000 for
Malawian applicants and US$150 for international applicants. The admission application
fee should be deposited directly into the following bank account:

Application procedure
Eligible applicants should submit their applications which must include the following:
1. A letter of application,
2. A curriculum vitae,
3. One academic reference,
4. A copy of relevant academic transcript(s),
5. A copy of the highest qualification awarded,
6. Evidence of ability to pay fees (e.g. bank statement for self sponsored candidates
or letter of commitment from the sponsor),
7. Bank deposit slip and corresponding transaction slip for admission application fee.
Applications submitted without the application fee or with insufficient
documents/information will be disqualified.
Prospective UCE candidates serving in government institutions should submit applications
through their employers.
