RE-OPENING OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) would like to inform all its students that following an announcement by the Malawi Government to re-open all education institutions, the University will open for the teaching and learning in phases.  Group one classes will commence on Monday, 14th September, 2020 while classes for group two will commence on Monday, 9th November, 2020.  The re-opening of the University shall be guided by the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

  1. Calendar for the 2019/20 second semester

The calendar for the 2019/20 second semester teaching and learning will be as below:

(i)Group 1

All students are being requested to take note that while Group 1 is on campus, Group 2 will continue with e-learning up until they return to the University on 9th November, 2020 to continue with the semester.

  1. Measures to be undertaken

Management wishes to inform all students that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been developed to guide the University in its operations during the Covid-19 pandemic. These SOPs will be shared with students prior to their arrival on campus.   Management shall, however, undertake the following as part of Covid-19 preventive measures:

  • Disinfect the University premises
  • Engage food service providers to ensure that they are in compliance with Covid-19 preventive measures
  • Engage and train the surrounding community on Covid-19
  • Screen all students by taking temperature readings before boarding the University bus in Limbe and on arrival at MUST campus
  • Record students’ history for possible Covid-19 exposure on campus
  • Provide handwashing facilities in strategic places. However, each student is expected to bring at least one bottle of sanitizer with them for their personal use.
  • Enforce temperature checking before classes on a daily basis
  • Enforce mandatory wearing of face masks at all times except when taking meals. As such, all students are expected to bring a minimum of three reusable face masks.

All postgraduate students are being informed that they should report for on-campus teaching and learning on 28th September, 2020.  Students are being requested to contact the Director for Research and Postgraduate Studies on the teaching timetables.

All students are being informed that since the University will be operating under Covid-19 conditions, the MUST Students’ Rules and Regulations are being revised to ensure safety for both students and staff. The amended version will be shared with students. Any violation of the revised Rules and Regulation will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter.
