Limkokwing offers scholarships and donation to lessen the impact of the pandemic

As the coronavirus wrecks lives and economies across the world, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology is playing a part and fully contributing in whatever way possible to lessen the impact of the pandemic, thus healing in Malaysia. In view of this, Limkokwing University offered full scholarships to the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) amounting to RM2.3 million for the Ministry’s target group students.

Limkokwing University also made a contribution of RM100,000 for the Kembara Prihatin Negara program providing necessary aid where it is needed the most to alleviate the suffering of people impacted by the pandemic.

The sponsorship cheque and donation was presented by the university’s Senior Vice President Datuk Raja Aznil Raja Hisham to Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun.

Rina in a statement in conjunction with the ceremony said the full scholarship will be given to 30 students who will study at Limkokwing University.

“Education plays an important role in forming a new generation that is intellectual and can meet the country’s aspirations in the future,” she said.

Rina said the program, which had been implemented since Nov 1, 2020, was aimed at helping the people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through the donation of basic necessities.

Worldwide Campaigns

Over the years, Founder President of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing has led many peace building efforts in Malaysia and throughout the world. He played a significant part in directing the election campaign for Mandela and the ANC in South Africa’s first ever multi-racial election, designed the STOP EBOLA campaign in Sierra Leone to bring about awareness of the dangers of the disease and initiated the Global Humanitarian Appeal for Bosnia-Herzegovina to raise funds for the reconstruction of a country devastated by war.

To assist Malaysia in its role in leading peace efforts in the region, he initiated the Kuala Lumpur World Peace Conference and the Global Peace Foundation.

Instilling Hope and Peace

As the Founder/President he has dedicated his life to uplifting up the lives of others. In Africa and Asia, through the 12 universities established there, he provided access and opportunities for education on a philanthropic model. Over the years, he established partnerships with UNICEF, UNESCO, UNDP, UNHCR, The Commonwealth and other world organisations to promote world peace and understanding across the 180 countries where our students come from. The University is a member of the UN Academic Impact.

His work in peace building has been recognised by various world organisations including the UN. He is a recipient of the Salver of Honour and a member of the Confederation of Friends of the UN. Additionally, he is the UN Ambassador of Global Compact Malaysia and the UN Advisor for Business Innovation Council. The Commonwealth of Nations awarded him the Commonwealth Champion International Award and he remains Chair of the Commonwealth Innovation Council and Commonwealth Advisor of Youth Centre for Innovation. Elsewhere he remains International President of TVET UK and in Africa, and have been honoured with the accolade of Father of Innovation in Africa. He is also the first Asian to be honoured with South Africa’s Order of the Companions of O.R. Tambo for his work with ANC and Nelson Mandela during the nation’s first all-race elections.

Working towards Hope for the Disadvantaged 

With Covid-19 threatening global peace and security, the Limkokwing Foundation of Humanity embarked on a mission to provide much needed aid to old folks homes and distributed 400 hampers to 50 homes in and around the Klang Valley at the end of last year.
