Mauritius Scholarships Opportunity 2021

The Government of Brunei Darussalam is inviting applications from suitably qualified Mauritian nationals for the award of scholarships for programmes under Diploma, Bachelor and Masters Courses tenable in Brunei Darussalam for the academic session 2021/2022 with the opportunity to study at any one of the following higher education
institutions:

(i) Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)
(ii) Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA)
(iii) Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB)
(iv) Politeknik Brunei (PB)

Fields of Study
2.1 Applicants are required to consult the following websites regarding information on the Programmes offered and eligibility requirements before applying:

Candidates are also advised to consult the List of Indicative Priority Fields of Study for Mauritius (2017-2019) available on the Ministry’s website or on the Notice Board, Ground Floor of the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, MITD House, Pont Fer, Phoenix.

2.3 The scholarship is not tenable for undergraduate studies in medicine.

Eligibility Requirements
A. Bachelor’s Degree
(i) SC/GCE ‘O’ Level with credits in at least five subjects including
English Language at one and the same sitting; and
(ii) HSC/GCE ‘A’ Level with three subjects at Principal Level obtained at one
and the same sitting.

Master’s Degree
(i) SC/GCE ‘O’ Level with credits in at least five subjects including
English Language at one and the same sitting;
(ii) HSC/GCE ‘A’ Level with three subjects at Principal Level obtained at one
and the same sitting; and
(iii) A Bachelor’s degree of at least Second Class level in the corresponding
field.
Note: For a Master’s degree by Research, the applicant must
submit a research proposal along with the application.

Diploma Courses (Politeknik Brunei)
SC/GCE ‘O’ Level with credits in at least five subjects including Mathematics,
Science and English Language.

An alternative qualification acceptable and equivalent to A, B & C. It is the
responsibility of the candidates to provide evidence of equivalence of
certificates.
D. Candidates should ensure that their proposed field of study is relevant to the qualifications already possessed.

Age Limit
Candidates should be between 18 to 25 years of age for the Diploma and
Bachelor Courses and not more than 35 years of age for Master’s Degrees by the closing date for applications.

Beneficiaries of scholarships will be required to sign an undertaking, thereby committing themselves to returning to Mauritius immediately after completion of their studies and work for at least two years in the public or private sector.

Only the best qualified candidates will be selected. Candidates who would not have been informed of their nomination within eight weeks as from the closing date for application should consider that they have not been selected.

  1. Applicants are reminded that, being nominated by the Ministry does not
    automatically guarantee final selection for an award. The final decision to award the scholarships and the choice of Universities rest with the Brunei Authorities.

    9.1 Applications must be made on the prescribed form available at the
    Scholarships Section, Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science
    and Technology, 1st Floor, MITD House, Pont Fer, Phoenix-73544 or

Applicants are advised that, in case they are nominated by the Ministry,
they would have to submit a Certificate of Character from the Mauritian
competent authorities. It is recommended that applicants initiate early
procedures for them to obtain the required document.
9.3 Applicants must be certified to be medically fit to undertake the
scholarship and to study in Brunei Darussalam by a registered medical
practitioner prior to arrival in Brunei Darussalam. Any and all costs
incurred in obtaining this certification are to be borne by the applicant.
9.4 Candidates should ensure that originals along with certified copies of Birth Certificates/Identity Card/Passport and other educational certificates,
transcripts of final university results/marksheets and all other relevant
documents relating to their qualifications are submitted to the
Scholarships Section by the closing date. Non-submission of these
documents on time will result in their elimination from the
selection exercise. Certification of documents may be done at the
Scholarships Section of the Ministry or at the Career Guidance Service in
Rose Hill.
9.5 The completed Application Form along with all supporting documents
should be submitted to the Scholarships Section of the Ministry by
Friday 19 February 2021 at 14 00 hours at latest. Where original
documents are not in English, certified true copies of official English
translations should be provided at the time of application.
9.6 Responsible parties, of applicants who are not in Mauritius may apply on behalf of their wards.

Applicants already in employment, whether public or private, must fill in
the application form in duplicate. One copy thereof along with the
relevant supporting documents should be submitted to the Scholarships
Section, and one copy to the applicant’s employer who has to confirm, in
writing, whether the applicant would be released for the course, and if so,
on what terms and conditions. Such information should be made
available by the closing date.
9.8 A Communiqué will be placed on the website in due course to inform
applicants that the selection exercise has been completed
