While there were fears about the routing of the questionnaires from SC and HSC, with the borders being closed, the authorities are reassuring on the matter.

All the questionnaires have indeed already arrived and have been placed under seal at the Mauritius Examination Syndicate (MES), as is the case every year. On the other hand, it is at the college level that a strict health protocol will have to be put in place so that the exams are held in the best conditions. In the industry, all are unanimous in saying that these tests must be maintained at all costs, because the candidates already failed them for the first time in October of last year.

“The questionnaires are already there, and everything is ready for the exams. However, we are monitoring developments closely and will apply the government’s “policy decisions”. A source at the Ministry of Education said about the holding of the SC and HSC exams, which are scheduled for March 22 and 23 respectively, along with the “Food Studies” practice tests. They will last until June 11. For three months, therefore, the organizers will have to ensure that everything runs smoothly, and in compliance with health rules.

In this regard, colleges are already starting to work extra hard to ensure that candidates pass this test under the best possible conditions. Vikash Ramdonee, secretary of the United Deputy Rectors and Rectors Union (UDRRU) and Acting Rector at the Royal College of Curepipe, believes that “everything must be done” to make these exams go as planned. “Of course, you have to take into account the evolution of the health situation, but I think everything should be done not to penalize these students a second time.

They have already suffered from this situation last year and have fallen behind in their school life. I believe that apart from the health situation, the top priority should be these candidates from SC and HSC. “
