Nanyang Polytechnic Entry Requirement

Nanyang Polytechnic (Abbreviation: NYP) is a polytechnic located in the precinct of Yio Chu Kang in the town of Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. As an industry-oriented alternative to a broader based junior college education, polytechnic graduates in Singapore are sought after for work or many continue to complete university degrees. In contrast to polytechnics in the United States and UK, polytechnics in Singapore admit majority of its students after secondary school which is after 10 years of formal education. Diplomas in a specialized area of study, for example Biomedical Science, are awarded after completing 3 years of studies.

Applicants seeking admission to Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Industrial Design, Project & Facilities Management and Real Estate must satisfy a minimum GCE ‘O’ Level Mathematics requirement.

i) Applicants who do not fulfil the minimum GCE ‘O’ Level Mathematics requirement but have obtained the following Diploma Plus Programme transcript would be deemed as having met the Mathematics requirement.

* Graduate DDP Transcript covering three Diploma Plus modules: Analytical Geometry, Applied Calculus and Advanced Calculus.

ii) Applicants who do not fulfil the minimum GCE ‘O’ Level Mathematics requirement and do not have the Graduate DDP Transcript mentioned may still submit an application. They will be assessed based on their polytechnic results and other results/ certificates presented under the Achievements section. The University may evaluate these applicants on a case-by-case basis. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an admissions interview under the discretion of the School of Design and Environment.

iii) Please note that all shortlisted candidates who apply for Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Industrial Design will have to attend the faculty test and interview. More information on the test and interview can be found here.

2 Applicants with relevant Diplomas may be granted selective module exemptions, subject to faculty / school approval or based on performance in placement tests set by faculty/ school. They may refer to faculty / school websites for more information. 3 Applicants seeking admission to the Business courses may refer to the Business School website at here

4 Candidates must fulfil the following Mathematics requirements in order to be considered for the respective Computing courses:

i) Computer Science Courses: At least a B3 grade in GCE ‘O’ Level Additional Mathematics. Please refer to http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/undergraduates/cs_courses.html for more information.

ii) Information Security / Information Systems: At least an A2 grade in GCE ‘O’ level Mathematics or at least a B4 grade in GCE ‘O’ level Additional Mathematics.

iii) Business Analytics: At least an A2 grade in GCE ‘O’ Level Mathematics or at least a B3 grade in GCE ‘O’ Level Additional Mathematics. Please visit here for more information on this programme.

Note that students who have fulfilled the Mathematics requirement listed in (i), (ii) or (iii) are required to sit for MA1301 Introductory Mathematics Proficiency Test upon Admission or read MA1301 Introductory Mathematics module in NUS for fulfilment of their degree requirements.

iv) Applicants who do not fulfil the Mathematics requirements listed in (i), (ii) and (iii) but have obtained the following Diploma Plus Programme transcript would be deemed as having met the Mathematics requirements for the Computing courses and are not required to sit for MA1301 Maths Proficiency test:

* Graduate DPP Transcript covering three Diploma Plus modules: Analytical Geometry, Applied Calculus and Advanced Calculus.

v) Applicants who do not fulfil the requirements listed in (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv) may still submit an application to be considered for the courses. They will be assessed based on their polytechnic results and other additional results/ certificates presented under the Achievements section. The University may evaluate these applicants on a case-by-case basis. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an admissions interview under the discretion of the School of Computing.

5 Applicants applying for Law should possess excellent polytechnic results, a minimum grade of A2 in English Language at ‘O’ Level and preferably a Certificate of Merit (COM) from their polytechnic studies.

7 Applicants seeking admission to these Science courses would be required to attend an admissions interview conducted by the relevant faculty. Shortlisted candidates will be informed to attend such interview(s) for these courses.

10With effect from AY2018, candidates must also fulfil the following Mathematics requirements in order to be considered for the Computer Engineering course:

i) At least a B4 grade in GCE ‘O’ Level Additional Mathematics, or

ii) Applicants who do not fulfil the above Mathematics requirements but have obtained the following Certificate would be deemed as having met the Mathematics requirements for the Computer Engineering course:

* Graduate DDP Transcript covering three Diploma Plus modules: Analytical Geometry, Applied Calculus and Advanced Calculus.

Note that students who have fulfilled the Mathematics requirement listed in (i) are required to sit for MA1301 Introductory Mathematics Proficiency Test upon Admission or read MA1301 Introductory Mathematics module in NUS for fulfilment of their degree requirements.
