At SMU, we are committed to a holistic and aptitude-based admissions approach, where we look for students who have not only been successful academically but who possess qualities that we value. In addition to academic grades, we will look for evidence of these qualities such as aptitude, positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and communication skills, as demonstrated through leadership in co-curricular activities; impactful involvement in community service and volunteer programmes; significant awards and achievements in areas relevant to the course applied for; noteworthy involvement in work/internships relevant to the course applied for; as well as other relevant factors.
- A 3-year full-time Polytechnic diploma from Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic or Temasek Polytechnic. Advanced diplomas / specialist diplomas / certificate courses cannot be considered for the purpose of admission. Click here for information on the Indicative Grade Profile. Graduating students are welcome to apply with their first 5 semester results. They are required to upload their final semester results online at Applicant’s Self Service within 3 working days after the release of the results.
- Interview for shortlisted applicants. Shortlisted Law applicants must also take a writing test. Interviews and writing tests for shortlisted Law applicants are conducted in end-March to April. Click here for important information on this.

HOW TO APPLY
We welcome prospective students with acceptable diplomas from Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic to apply.
All applications for admission must be submitted online. There is no separate application for scholarship. Applicants who are interested in applying for scholarships can submit the details in the online application for admission. There is no separate application form for scholarships.
SMU advocates for the rights of students with special needs, and regards them as equal, integral and contributing members of the student body. Our online application for admission has a section asking applicants to indicate if they have any special needs. Applicants with such special needs are requested to complete this section.
