TRAINING PROGRAMMES IN BACHELOR OF
EDUCATION (SECONDARY) DEGREE TENABLE AT
DOMASI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION IN OCTOBER,
2016 THROUGH FACE-TO-FACE (RESIDENTIAL)
MODE OF DELIVERY
1. Applications are invited from suitably qualified
Malawians for a four year residential training
course leading, on successful completion, to a
Bachelors of Education degree in Sciences or
Humanities (Languages and Social Sciences).
2. Entry Requirements
Applicants must
a) Be School Leavers who are holders of a Malawi
School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its
equivalent obtained in 2013, 2014 and 2015 with
credits in six subjects including English / English
Language and Mathematics and an aggregate of
not more than 24 points of which two subjects of
specialization applied for should not exceed 8
aggregate points.
b) Not be more than 35 years of age
3. Programmes
The details of the programmes are as follows:
Programme A: Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
(Sciences)
In this programme, applicants must choose one
combination of two subjects which will be their
teaching subjects from the following:
(i). Mathematics and Biology
(ii). Mathematics and Physics
(iii). Mathematics and Chemistry
(iv). Mathematics and Computer Science
(v). Agriculture and Mathematics
(vi). Agriculture and Biology
(vii). Agriculture and Human Ecology (Home
Economics)
(viii). Physical Education and Mathematics
(ix). Physical Education and Biology
(x). Human Ecology (Home Economics) and
Biology
(xi). Human Ecology (Home Economics and
Mathematics)
Applicants for combinations (i), (ii) (iii) and (iv)
must have at least credits in English/English
Language, Mathematics, Biology and Physical
Science/General Science and any other two
subjects.
Applicants for combinations (v), (vi), (vii), (viii), (ix),
(x) and (xi) must have at least credits in English /
English Language, Mathematics and any other four
subjects, two of which should be the following:
Biology, Home Economics, Physical Science/
General Science and Agriculture.
Due to the rigour of the Physical Education
practicals, only those who are medically and
physically fit should apply for combinations (viii)
and (ix). Shortlisted applicants will be required to
sign a consent form.
Programme B: Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
(Humanities) Languages or Social Sciences)
In this programme, applicants must choose one
combination of two subjects which will be their
teaching subjects from the following.
(i). English and Linguistics & African Languages
(ii). English & French
(iii). French and Linguistics & African Languages
(iv). Geography & Social Studies
(v). History and Theology & Religious Studies
(vi). Creative & Performing Arts
(vii). Physical Education and Performing Arts
(viii). Physical Education & Creative Arts
Applicants for options (i), (ii) and (iii) must have
credits in English and Chichewa or English
Language and Chichewa Language and any other
four (4) subjects. Those opting for French should
also have a credit in French.
Due to the rigour of the Physical Education
practices only those who are medically and
physically fit should apply for combinations (vii)
and (viii), that is:-
(vii)Physical Education & Performing Arts
(viii) Physical Education & Creative Arts
Applicants for options (iv), (v) and (vi) must have
at least credits in English / English Language and
any other five subjects including two of the
following: Bible Knowledge, Geography, History,
Life Skills, Social and Development Studies,
Chichewa and French.
4. All short listed applicants will be required to sit
for an aptitude test in 3 papers: Numerical,
Communication and Reasoning skills.
5. Training Conditions
(i) Applicants will be required to pay a financial
contribution in form of tuition fees which will be
determined by Government from time to time.
Tuition fees for 2016/17 academic year is MK
250,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand
Kwacha)
(ii) Domasi College of Education will not pay any
form of allowances to trainees.
6. Methods of application
Applicants should apply for only ONE of the two
programmes clearly indicating:
(i). Which programme they are applying for;
(ii). The preferred subject combination;
(iii). Actual MSCE (or its equivalent) grades in all
subjects, with dates when they were obtained.
Grades from 2 full MSCE certificates will not be
allowed.
(iv). Age
(v). Years of service and Teaching Certificate
Number (for serving teachers only)
Serving teachers in public institutions should
submit their applications through their employer,
the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
Those in private institutions should apply through
their employer as well.
7. Processing fee
All applicants should pay a non refundable
processing fee of Four Thousand Kwacha
(K4000.00). The processing fee should be
deposited directly into the following Bank account:

8. Applications together with a copy of the Bank
deposit slip, clearly marked Face-to-Face

NB:
• Former DCE students who were withdrawn on
academic or disciplinary grounds must not apply
for this training.
• Special needs students are encouraged to apply
for Programme B (i) and (v).
• Do not send your original certificates or
notification of results.
• Domasi College of Education is implementing a
50-50 policy on recruitment by gender. Therefore
women are particularly encouraged to apply.
