2017 INTAKE THROUGH BRIDGING PROGRAMME
The Catholic University of Malawi invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Bridging
Programme it intends to run. The successful applicants will register for the Bridging Programme which
shall commence on 12th December 2016 and will finish on 27th January 2017. Names of shortlisted
applicants will be released by 21st November 2016. Upon successful completion of the bridging
programme, a person is eligible to enroll in one of the University programmes specified in this
announcement. The semester begins on 6th February 2017.
Eligibility for the Bridging Programme/ Who should apply?
1. The Bridging Programme is aimed at providing academic study opportunity to those who do not
meet the prescribed university normal entry requirements. Those with MSCE or its equivalent
plus credits in four subjects including English and an aggregate of not more than thirty-four
(34) points are in this category.
2. The Bridging Programme is also open to those with credits in six subjects including English
and qualify to write University Entrance Examinations but choose to gain pre-university
experience before admission.
3. In either of the two scenarios above, applicants should be those with Malawi School Certificate
of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent obtained in not more than two sittings in the recent past
two years.
4. The university interpretation of IGSCE and O-Level as an equivalent to MSCE is as follows:
IGSCE; A*=1, A=2, B=3, C=5, D=7, E=8, F=9
GCE O-Level; A=1, B=3, C=5, D=7; E=8
Bridging programme Outline
Successful applicants shall be enrolled and register for five courses which shall be examined at the end
of the programme. Only those who pass will be eligible for admission in one of the university
programme of study. The following courses are offered during the Bridging Programme:
1. Numerical Skills
2. Information and Computer Technology
3. Communication and Study Skills.
4. Introduction to Economics
5. Critical Thinking
Degree Programmes on offer after completion of bridging programme
Upon successful completion of the Bridging Programme candidates will be eligible to enroll in one of
the following degree programmes and will not be required to sit for university entrance examinations:

Admission into a university degree programme is subject to additional specific programme requirements
demanded by the various faculties. This means that upon successful completion of the Bridging
Programme, candidates will be guided by Deans of Faculties on the programme to study.

Catering – Catering Services are outsourced to Magic Apron, a private catering company, which offer
flexible payment terms. The total cost of three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for the entire course

METHOD OF APPLICATION
(a) Application Forms
Application forms are available at the University Campus, Nguludi-Chiradzulu; the Catholic Secretariat
(Area 11, Lilongwe); all Catholic Diocesan Education Offices (Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Dedza, Mangochi,
Zomba, Blantyre, Chikwawa and Karonga).
Application forms can also be downloaded through the internet by accessing the university website at
www.cunima.ac.mw
(b) Application fee
Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of K 5000. The application fee should
be deposited in one of the University’s bank accounts held at the following banks:
